Oracle ascii Functions

1 Introduction

The Oracle ascii function is used to return the numeric code of a single character.

Second syntax

ASCII (single_character) parameter description: indicates that only one character can be entered. If multiple characters are entered, oracle returns only the numerical code of the first character.

3. Environment

Oracle 12c, 11g, 10g, 9i, 8i

HR @ orcl> select ascii ('AB') from dual;

ASCII ('AB ')
-----------
97

HR @ orcl> select ascii ('A') from dual;

ASCII ('A ')
----------
97
