Oracle Client Installation

There are two ways to install an Oracle client:

1, Oracle Standard client click to download

This is a client of Standard Edition 11R2 provided by Oracle

2, Oracle Database Instant client (Instant clients) Click to download

Optional programs are marked with an asterisk (*).

In general, we can connect to a remote database on the next two packages, namely Instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip (all files required to Runoci, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications, which is the Oracle API interface for Oracle-enabled connections in the package's files, if these files are not available on the operating system (in fact, the link library file is used when the software is running), use OCI, OCCI, and Jdbc-oci these libraries (which are the contents of the file containing the package) are developed by the application (with the Oracle connection) and will not work properly. There are also Instantclient-sqlplus-windows.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip(sqlplus tools are estimated to have been developed using OCI (library)). then, merge the extracted files into one folder and use them. If you want to log on using the Sqlplus command on Cmd.exe, simply add the path to that folder on the operating system's environment variable path.

3, recommended to use instant Client

With Instant client, you do not need to install a standard Oracle client (referred to in the 3rd point of this article) or have oracle_home to run the application. OCI, OCCI, Pro*c, ODBC, and JDBC applications can run without modification, while significantly saving disk space. Even sql*plus can be used with the Instant Client. No need to recompile, there is no trouble.

4, the installation process of Instant client

A, download Instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip and Instantclient-sqlplus-windows.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip and unzip to the same folder , named instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.2.0.1.0

B. Then copy the instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.2.0.1.0 folder to the installation folder on the Oracle server
