The next version of Oracle database will be Oracle 18.

Objective

In order to faster, through the annual release of the new features to the user, small steps to run, grayscale publishing, you can try to reduce the user's fear of version upgrades as much as possible through minor changes. This in turn allows users to unite more closely around Oracle database products, maintaining user and Oracle interactions through continuous upgrades.

As you can see in the following release plans, the 18 release will be released in 2018 and the 19 release will be released in 2019. However, versions 18 and 19 are still covered under the 12.2 version, respectively, with the 12.2.0.2 and 12.2.0.3 versions.

In addition to this large version of the change, the original quarterly release of the CPU and PSU will maintain the original period of release, the knowledge name will change.

With the new version, the original patch mechanism has changed, and two new concepts have been introduced: RU and RUR:

1. Ru-release Updates, will be released in January, April, July and October, including security fixes and high-priority non-security fixes, similar to the original CPU;

2. Rur-release Updates Revisions, the integration of the latest two RU, the stable security and reliable correction integration released to the user;
