Oracle Study Notes: Meaning of the "blank_trimming" command

The static initialization parameter of blank_trimming controls whether the string trailing space is automatically truncated! So that the length of trailing spaces does not need to be considered during calculation between [columns] or [variables] of the [character type! This is compatible with the sql-92 Standard

Example:

Declare
V_char1 varchar2 (2 );
V_char2 varchar2 (5): = 'af';/* long string with Spaces */
Begin
V_char1: = v_char2;
Dbms_output.put_line (v_char1 );
End;

When "blank_trimming = 'true'", this example can run successfully.

This example can fail when "blank_trimming = 'false!
