Ubuntu publisher Canonical is preparing a new Web service UbuntuOne, which provides cloud computing synchronous backup storage for Linux desktops. Currently, this service is under development, during the beta testing period, ubuntu community members are invited to participate in the ubuntuOne test. UbuntuOne provides 2 GB of free storage space and is expected to be put into use soon.

In fact, I got the UbuntuOne invitation number very early, and it was really embarrassing to start trying it out recently.

First, it is easy to install the local synchronization client. see the installation instructions to complete the installation. After the local synchronization client is installed, the UbuntuOne resident chart will appear in the application icon notification area. when the folder monitored by UbuntuOne changes, the icon will turn and prompt. At the same time, the synchronized files under the folder will be displayed on the tab.

The significance of UbuntuOne is to implement cloud backup before cloud computing. it can be simply understood as synchronization, or even a network disk. Since it is synchronous, there is a client and the cloud, the client is the need to install the ubuntuone-client-gnome, the cloud we can see in the login to the https://ubuntuone.com.

I randomly put some files, and the overall feeling is good. The first is the synchronization speed. a file of 15.2MB is added, which is synchronized in about 3 minutes. The synchronization speed is about 80 kB/s, which is satisfactory; second, the client-cloud and cloud-client have fast synchronous responses, almost all of which are real-time responses. On the cloud web interface, you can add folders, upload and delete files, and send shares to other UbuntuOne users.

A careful person may be able to see that the browser shown above is Google Chrome's latest dev linux version. although it is still a development version, its excellent charm cannot be blocked.

UbuntuOne is still tested in the community and has not been officially published yet. you need to wait.
