core types of Athlon XP

Athlon XP has 4 different core types, but they all have something in common: they all use socket a interface and are labeled with PR nominal value.

Palomino

This is the first Athlon XP core, the use of 0.18um manufacturing process, the core voltage of about 1.75V, two cache for 256KB, packaging method using OPGA, front-end bus frequency for 266MHz.

Thoroughbred

This is the first Athlon XP core with 0.13um manufacturing process, divided into thoroughbred-a and thoroughbred-b two versions, Core voltage 1.65v-1.75v around, two cache for 256KB, package mode using OPGA, front-end bus frequency of 266MHz and 333MHz.

Thorton

0.13um manufacturing process, the core voltage of 1.65V or so, two cache for 256KB, packaging method using OPGA, front-end bus frequency for 333MHz. Can be thought of as masking half a second-level cache of Barton.

Barton

Using 0.13um manufacturing process, the core voltage of 1.65V, two cache for 512KB, the package adopts OPGA, the front-end bus frequency is 333MHz and 400MHz.

Core types of new Duron

Applebred

0.13um manufacturing process, the core voltage of 1.5V or so, two cache for 64KB, packaging method using OPGA, front-end bus frequency for 266MHz. PR nominal value is not used to mark the actual frequency of labeling, there are 1.4GHz, 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz three kinds.

Core type of Athlon 64 series CPU

Clawhammer

Using 0.13um manufacturing process, the core voltage of 1.5V, two cache for 1MB, the package adopts MPGA, using Hyper Transport bus, built-in 1 128bit memory controller. Socket 754, socket 940, and socket 939 connectors are used.

Newcastle

The main difference with the clawhammer is that the level two cache is reduced to 512KB (which is the result of the relatively low price policy adopted by AMD for market needs and speed up the promotion of 64-bit CPUs), and other performance is basically the same.
