PCLinuxOS & ForesightLinux

PCLinuxOS & amp; ForesightLinux-Linux general technology-Linux technology and application information. For more information, see the following. I have been in touch with Linux for a while, and I have also played a lot of Linux distributions (distribution = distro ).

In my memory, the first time I came into contact with Unix was to compile the Linux core. At that time, I really set various options to turn into a zombie, and the compiled core could not be started. XD didn't touch Linux for a long time, instead, I played FreeBSD a little bit, but because I didn't have the need to stand on the site, and at that time, the Linux desktop environment was very simple and scary, so I put Linux and FreeBSD on the shelf (Gnome? KDE? Don't laugh. It hasn't appeared yet ).

The first distro is RedHat. Although there are still a lot of things I don't understand, at least I found that Linux also has a graphical installation interface. For a thorough Linux layman, it won't be overwhelmed by failure at the beginning of installation. Later, I wrote University topics on Fedora core, but I ran it under VMWare Workstation. After all, the desktop environment was barely acceptable at that time.

Until he completed the course of network programming, most of the teaching content was executed in Linux, So I naturally installed Fedora Core 5 into my laptop, allows Linux and Windows to coexist. Since then until now, the more familiar Linux is with Fedora 8, the more features I have to go back to Windows to execute. At present, all the other things are handled by Linux. (Some things in Linux are not easy to do under Windows. For example, if I want to convert avi to yuv, ffmpeg will be used in Linux soon and many circles will be made under Windows .)

I have also tried Ubuntu, which is very well-known, but I decided to stick to it after the test. Although Ubuntu is a very friendly distro, it does not have an official DVD version, so many of the kits that are very common to me must be downloaded and installed over the Internet later. At the same time, I also found that, whether it is Fedora or Ubuntu, a new version is launched every six months or so. If a version is about one and a half years old, it will be stopped, you must update it to the latest and safest version.

So I started searching again to see if any Linux distro can get rid of this restriction. Later I learned that Ubuntu and Fedora both belong to the distro of fixed release, and there is another method called rolling release, which can achieve what I want.

After turning over the network, we found that there are many Linux distro rolling release, such as the well-known Gentoo and Arch. However, the installation time of the former is too long. You must download the original code and compile it. It may take about a week to install it; although the ISO file is very small (less than 200 MB), the latter needs to download and install many packages and set them. The two are too troublesome for me. I don't want to spend a lot of time, but I don't get much performance growth.

At present, we have discovered two rolling release Linux distro, PCLinuxOS and Foresight Linux. The former is CD, and the latter has a DVD. I am happy to download it. I hope it will meet my needs after the trial.
