Dear colleagues and leaders:

Good morning! (Applause)

I am very glad that president Xu has given me such a lofty honor to talk about my experience at Peking University. (Applause)

It can be said that Peking University is a place that has changed my life, a place that has elevated myself, and finally moved me from a rural child to a place in the world. It is no exaggeration to say that without Peking University, there is certainly no such thing as today. Peking University left me with a series of good memories and a series of pains. It is in the middle of beauty and suffering, in the middle of frustration, struggle and progress, finally found yourself and began to do something for yourself, for the family, for the society.

Student Life is wonderful and has many wonderful memories. I still remember that there was a boy in our class who pulled the violin from the girl's dormitory every day. (laughter) hoped to attract the girl's attention. As a result, the girl threw a bottle of water. I still remember that in order to attract the girl's attention, I helped the girl to carry the bag every winter and summer vacation. (Laughter and applause) later I found that the girl had a boyfriend. (Laughter) I asked her why she wanted me to carry the bag. She said she wanted her boyfriend to have a rest (Laughter and applause ). I also remember that when I first joined Peking University, I could not speak Mandarin. The class first introduced each other at the class meeting. I stood up and introduced myself. As a result, our shift leader stood up and said to me: "Can you not speak Japanese without Yu Minhong?" (Laughter) I spent a whole year later, imitating the broadcasting station in the woods of Peking University with a radio, but it is still hard to speak Mandarin today.

Human progress may be a matter of a lifetime. Peking University is the beginning, not the end of our life. Many things are particularly touching. For example, we are fortunate to have met Professor Zhu Guangqian. In his last days, our classmates took turns pushing a wheelchair to walk with him in Peking University. (Applause) whenever I push a wheelchair, my heart is filled with the worship of Professor Zhu Guangqian, a kind of sacredness. Therefore, aesthetics is the most widely used field in university reading. Because he wrote a book "The History of Western Aesthetics", which is the second book I studied after I went to college.

Why is it the second one? This is because I came here first. After Entering Peking University, I went to the dormitory. I have a classmate who is already in the dormitory. The classmate was lying in bed and reading a book called The Rise and Fall of the third empire. So I asked him one sentence and said, "Do you want to read such books in college ?" He took the book out of his eyes and glanced at me. He ignored me and continued to read his book. This glance remains in my heart. I know that Peking University is not only a professional, but also a large number of books. You are qualified to call yourself a student of Peking University. (Applause) So the first book I read at Peking University was the rise and fall of the third empire, and I read it three times. Later, I went to this classmate and said, "Let's talk about the rise and fall of the third empire." He said, "I forgot ." (Laughter)

I also remember that my mentor, Professor Li Funing, was originally the director of the Peking University English department. When he gave us the fourth book of New Concept English, he wrote the board very completely every time, very beautiful. It is always written from the upper left corner of the blackboard. When the bell rings, it just ends in the lower right corner. (Applause) I still remember that Professor Luo jingguo, a teacher in the history of English Literature, failed the test due to my bad mood in the last year at Peking University. I found Professor Luo and said, "If I fail this course, I will not be able to complete the course .", Professor Luo said: "I can give you a pass score, but remember that in the future, you must make a career worthy of my score ." (Applause) As a result, the tolerance, knowledge, freedom, and freedom of Peking University Teachers allow us to truly become Peking University Students and truly enjoy the spirit of Peking University. When I heard that president Xu Zhihong sang "Invisible Wings" to my students, I opened the video and moved my eyes to tears. Because I think the president of Peking University should be like this. (Applause)

I remember a lot of difficulties when I was at Peking University. First, Mandarin is poor, and the second English level is messy. Even after three years of hard work, I got to Peking University. Because I fell into the rankings twice, I finally unexpectedly got to Peking University. I have never thought that Peking University is the place where I can go to school. She is a holy land in my heart and I think it will never be enough. But that year, during the third year, my college entrance examination score exceeded the admission score of Peking University by 7, and I finally made up my mind to fill in the words "Peking University. I know that many people will score higher than me, and I don't think I will be admitted. I did not expect that Peking University's students have a very bright vision. It is only thirty years later that I am today. (Applause) but in fact, my English is poor. In rural areas, I can neither listen nor speak, but only recite grammar and words. During our shift division, fifty students were divided into three classes. Because my English test scores were good, I was divided into Class A, but one month later, I was transferred to Class C. Class C is called the "Speech Tone and hearing impairment class ". (Laughter)

I also remember that I did not even read "Dream of Red Mansions" before entering Peking University, so I tried my best to catch up when I saw my classmates reading a book. As a result, I have read more than eight hundred books in college and spent five years ). But I still haven't caught up with my classmates. I remember that my shift leader Wang Qiang is a book-related scholar. Now he is also in New Oriental and is the president of the New Oriental Education Research Institute. I followed him every time he bought a book. At that time, Peking University sent us more than 20 yuan of living expenses every month. Wang Qiang's hobby was to split the living expenses into two parts, half for books and half for food tickets. The money for books will never be used to buy meal tickets. If he doesn't have a meal ticket, he will borrow it. If he doesn't, he will steal it everywhere. (Laughter) later I found that he had a good habit. I also set my living expenses to two, half for books, half for food tickets, and I stole his meal tickets. (Laughter)

It is no exaggeration to say that the students in our class were at Peking University, and they were one of the most attended classes. Moreover, our class was very active at that time, and there were several simple poets. Later, a famous poet called Xichuan, named Liu Jun, was from our class. (Applause) I still remember that our class was the first to take the lead. At that time, we were an excellent group of Peking University, but one night everyone had a good time. As a result, they danced in a face-Face dance, the second week was criticized by the Ministry of Education. At that time, Dancing must be very formal. It is considered a violation of discipline when the boys and girls are a little closer. So now you are happier than we were. Not only can we dance, but we can also walk in the campus hand in hand. If we walk in the campus hand in hand, we will be thrown into the lake without name, therefore, we usually leave on campus after. (Laughter)

I also remember the fifty students in our class, 25 boys and 25 girls. I was very excited when I heard this ratio (laughter ), I think everyone should have a configuration. I didn't expect all girls to see Handsome and romantic boys. If my appearance is not very good, my heart is full of rich feelings, and there is a huge potential for development in the future, girls generally cannot see it. (Laughter)

I remember that I had struggled for two years and hoped to catch up with my classmates. However, as Mr. Lu said just now, although you may have taken a very good college entrance examination in middle school, it is the first place, but Peking University has too many elites. You may be both top-notch or top-notch with extremely high IQ. It is also the highest or second place in various provinces. Therefore, it is a very difficult process to catch up with students at Peking University. Even though I have to learn one or two more times every day than other students, however, at the end of the second year of college, I still ranked the last few in the class. I am very diligent and depressed, and no girl will love me and comfort me. (Laughter) the result is that I had a serious illness when I was in the third year of college. This disease is called infectious tuberculosis. At that time, I was dizzy, because I was reading "A Dream of Red Mansions" and I was just reading the chapter of Lin Daiyu's death due to tuberculosis. (Laughter) I thought my life was over, later, Peking University hospital doctor told me that the disease can be cured now, but it needs to stay in the hospital for a year. I have lived in the hospital for a year. I have been bored for a year. I have read many books and wrote more than six hundred poems. Unfortunately, I have never published any of these poems. Since then, I have been connected to writing poems, But I have rich emotions, but I have no beautiful pens, so I have not finally become a poet. Later, I felt very lucky because I found that people who actually became poets had an accident. We wrote poetry together with the less famous poet Haizi. Later, he wrote a beautiful poem called "face to the sea, spring blossoms". Every one of us may be able to recite it. Later, when I heard that he committed suicide by sleep, I cried for a whole day. Since then, I have put down my pen and no longer write poems. (Applause)

I remember that when I graduated from Peking University to the fourth grade, I still ranked the last few in the class. However, at that time, I had a good attitude. I know that I am smarter than my classmates, but I have the ability to keep working hard. So at the graduation ceremony of our class, I said this, and now my classmates can still remember, I said, "Everyone has achieved excellent results, I am a late classmate in our class. But I want to rest assured that I will never give up. I have been doing what you have done for five years. I have been doing what you have done for ten years. I have been doing what you have done for ten years ". (Applause) I said to them, "If it doesn't work, I will stay in a good mood and be healthy. I will send you away after the age of 80 ." (Laughter)

There is a story that there are only two kinds of animals that can reach the top of the pyramid. One is an e, flying up with their own talent and wings. We have many e-style figures here. Many students do not need to work hard to reach the peak. After graduating from Peking University, many students may easily enter prestigious universities such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge for further study. Many students are full of talent and have such talents without learning. For example, my squad leader Wang Qiang mentioned just now, his imitation ability is superb and he can be anywhere, listening to a single sentence is no different from imitating it once. So he spent four years as an announcer at Peking University broadcasting station. I listen to His voice every day, and my teeth are filled with hate. (Laughter) so talented people are like e. However, we all know that another animal has reached the top of the pyramid. It's a snail bait. A snail can only climb up. It may take one month, two months, or even one or two years to climb from the bottom. At the top of the pyramid, people found traces of snails. I believe that snails will never climb smoothly. They will surely fall, climb, fall, and climb again. But what the students need to know is that as long as a snail bait climbs to the top of the pyramid, the world it sees in its eyes is exactly the same as what it achieves. (Applause) So maybe some of our colleagues here are eagles and some are snails. When I was at Peking University, including today, I always thought I was a snail bait. But I have been crawling, maybe I have not yet climbed to the top of the pyramid. But as long as you are crawling, it is enough to leave a life-touching day for yourself. (Applause)

I often tell my classmates that if we don't leave some days for ourselves, your life will be white. Many of us entered Peking University with outstanding achievements, but Peking University is not the end of your learning, but the starting point of your life. Between the ages of one year and 18 years old, you have started your own independent life by listening to your teacher and your parents. We must create days for ourselves to touch others. We have rich families and poor families here. The starting point of our life is whether you choose to be born in a rich family or a poor family. If you are born in a poor family, you can't say that dad is taking it back for me. I don't want to stay here. However, we choose the end of our life. All of our students have gone well in the past. They have already reached the very beginning of many Chinese children at the age of 18, because Peking University is China's pride, it can also be said to be the pride of the world. However, arriving at Peking University does not mean that you have achieved success from now on. It does not mean that you can make a good job in the future. How do you go in the next Fifty, sixty, or even one hundred years, it has become a question for everyone to think about. For me, I think we can achieve our own life as long as there are two things in our hearts.

The first is ideal. I have a feeling from an early age that I want to go beyond the horizon. I call it "the desire to cross the Horizon ". It is also because of this strong desire that I have the courage to continue the college entrance examination. However, I have examples in my life. For example, I have a neighbor who is very famous and is an example of my life. His name is Xu Xiake. Of course, it was a neighbor of five hundred years ago. But he is indeed my neighbor, from Jiangyin, Jiangsu province. I am also from Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province. The worship of Xu Xiake directly led me to score points in geography during the college entrance examination. (Applause) Xu Xiake also gave me this feeling of crossing the horizon, so I decided that if Xu Xiake traveled across China, I would like to go all over the world. Now, I am realizing my dream. Therefore, as long as you have an ideal, ambition, and classmates, you will eventually succeed. What you need to do is to have the ability to work hard, endure setbacks and failures, and constantly expand your mind to make things better. 

The second thing is conscience. What is conscience? It is to do a good thing, to do something worthy of others, to share with others, to be willing to serve others. Conscientious people will reflect what you do in your own life, and what you do will definitely affect your future life. It takes a long time for me to finish my speech.

The first story. One entrepreneur told me a story about his college career. One of their classmates had a rich family and brought six apples to school every week. The student in the dormitory thought it was one person, and he ate one meal each day. Although Apple is his, it won't be possible to rob you, but from now on, my classmates leave the impression that this child is too selfish. Later, the entrepreneur succeeded, and the Apple student did not succeed, so he hoped to join the entrepreneurial team. However, when I talked about it, I said that I could not join him. The reason was very simple, because he never showed the spirit of sharing in college. Therefore, for students, the first point in the college age, you have to share with them what you own, feelings, thoughts, and wealth, even an Apple can be divided into six slices for everyone to eat. (Applause) because you need to know that you will get more in the future, your contribution will never be paid in vain.

Let me talk about my own story. When I was a student at Peking University, I always had the spirit of serving students. I have never performed well in this person, but I love my work since I was a child. I hope to work diligently to attract the attention of my teachers and classmates. So I have been cleaning the classroom since the first year of primary school. After arriving at Peking University, I developed a good habit of cleaning the dormitory every day. This cleaning took four years. In this case, we have never ranked the health value table in our dormitory. In addition, every day I carry a canteen in the dormitory to fetch water for my classmates and treat it as a kind of physical exercise. As you may see, I used to fetch water. In the end, there was such a situation. Sometimes I forgot to fetch water, and my classmates said, "How can I not fetch water ". (Laughter ). However, I don't think it is a very bad thing to fetch water. Because everyone is a classmate, mutual help is taken for granted. The students must think that I have done this thing in vain. After another ten years, by the end of year 95, New Oriental had achieved a certain scale. I wanted to find a partner, and I ran to the United States and Canada to find my colleagues, they were examples of my life when I was in college, including Mr. Wang Qiang. I also brought the dollar back to seduce them and spent a lot of money in the United States every day to let them know that they can make money in China. I think this will probably bring them back. They came back, but gave me a very unexpected reason. They said, "Yu Minhong, we went back to water you for four years. "(Applause) They said:" We know that you have such a spirit, so you certainly won't give us porridge to eat, so let us go back to China together, join us in New Oriental." Only today of New Oriental. (Applause)

A person's life is a struggle, but some people have a great life, and some people have a very trivial life. If we have a great ideal and a kind heart, we will surely be able to build up a lot of trivial days into a great life. But if you don't have an ideal day and stop making progress, it will always be a pile of things in your life. Therefore, I hope that all my colleagues can build a great life every day. (Applause)

Finally, on behalf of all old alumni, I expressed my mind to more than three thousand new students. On behalf of all old alumni and New Oriental, I donated RMB 2 million to president Xu, it provides some help for the study, activities, and growth of the students. (Applause)
