After reading the test results of the PCMark05 software, we will compare the performance of the Vista operating system and Windows XP operating system on the three main components of the video card, processor, and hard disk. For laptops with independent graphics cards, we fully tested their display performance. For Fujitsu P7230 with integrated graphics cards, we only tested 3DMark03.

At the same time, to test the game performance gap between the Vista operating system and Windows XP operating system, we compared and tested two mainstream games on the Dell trend 6400. In addition, it is used to test the 3D performance of the Vista operating system on the premise of enabling the Aero3D desktop effect, so as to be closer to the actual user's use environment.

Through the comparison test of the 3DMark series software, we can see that the display performance of the Dell poweredge 6400 with AMD-ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card is slightly better than that of the Vista operating system in Windows XP operating system, however, the test score gap is small.

After reading the performance of the-card notebook, let's take a look at the performance of the N-card notebook in the new and old operating systems. Through the comparison and testing of the 3DMark series software, we can see that the test scores and trends of Asus Z99j with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 independent graphics card are roughly the same as those of Dell's 6400, the display performance of Windows XP operating systems is slightly better than that of Vista operating systems, and the test result gap is small. It seems that the Aero3D desktop Effect of Vista still has a certain impact on the display performance, but this effect is very small.

The dual-core dual-display laptop displays the fact that the performance gap is small under the New and Old operating systems. What if we see the single-core processor with integrated graphics card performance? Through the test of Fujitsu P7230, we can see that in the test of 3DMark03, the XP operating system scored a lot ahead of the Vista operating system. Although GMA950 integrated graphics card can enable Aero3D desktop effects, but the display performance loss is great, it seems that to have a good time to play with the Vista operating system, it is best to configure a laptop with an independent graphics card.

In the game test phase, we chose the popular game hero Lian and the typical test game FEAR. test the game speed difference between the Vista operating system and the XP operating system on Dell ECs 6400. "Hero" We use 1024*768 resolution of medium quality, "FEAR" uses 800*600 Resolution of medium quality.

By comparing the running speed of these two games in the Vista operating system and Windows XP operating system, we can see from one side that the current game performance of the XP system is better than that of the Vista operating system, the speed difference between the two games is about 10%. There are many factors that cause the 10% running speed gap, such as imperfect graphics card drivers, inadequate optimization of the game's Vista operating system, and the impact of Areo3D desktop effects on game performance. We can't say that the Vista operating system is not suitable for playing games because of the performance gap of 10%. I remember there was a similar argument when the XP system was just launched, any new things must have their own continuous improvement process. Currently, XP is more suitable for playing games than Vista.

Overall, after the Aero3D desktop effect is enabled using the Vista operating system, the 3D performance of both the independent graphics card and the laptop with integrated graphics card will be somewhat inferior to that of the XP system. The performance loss of the independent video card is very small, and users can almost ignore it, while the performance loss of the Integrated Video Card is relatively large. Currently, the XP operating system is the best gaming platform for game performance. If your laptop is equipped with a powerful graphics card, you can ignore 10% of the performance loss, playing games with the Vista operating system is also a good choice. I believe that with the increase in the popularity of the Vista operating system, the game will certainly run on the Vista operating system as perfect as the XP system.

After seeing the performance of the graphics card module on the New and Old Generation Windows operating systems, we also tested the comparison between the Vista operating system and the Windows XP operating system on the central processor, a key component that affects the overall performance of the laptop. Although personal computers have been developing for decades, the influence of processors on the overall performance of computers is still significant.

In addition to the extremely representative graphics card, the three laptops we selected also have representative processors. The Dell Elastic Compute service 6400 uses a core dual-core processor, the Asus Z99j uses a Core 2 dual-core processor, and the Fujitsu P7230 uses a core Single-core processor. In the test software, Super PI is used to evaluate the computing power of the processor and CINEBENCH9.5 is used to evaluate the multimedia rendering capability of the processor. The scores of the two testing software are measured in seconds. The smaller the time, the better.

Super PI testing software

Through the comparison and testing of core and dual-core processors, we can see that both core and Core 2 dual-core processors are slightly faster than Vista in terms of Super PI computing performance, this gap is negligible within one second. However, in terms of image rendering performance, we can see that the speed of the Vista operating system is faster than that of the XP system, however, this once again demonstrates that the Vista operating system can better utilize the performance of the dual-core processor.

The test results of the two single-core processors are faster than those of the Vista operating system. This also proves that the hardware performance requirements of the Vista operating system are slightly higher than those of the XP system, compared with Windows XP, the Vista operating system will lose some performance. This is only for the idea of Low-configuration Single-core processor laptops.

In addition to display performance and processor performance, disk performance is also an important factor that determines the overall performance of a laptop. Will the disk performance in the Vista operating system be lower than that in the XP system? We compared the three laptops with hard disks of different brands and different conversion numbers. The Dell migration 6400 uses Fujitsu 5400 rpm, serial port, and 2.5 inch hard drive. The Asus Z99j uses Hitachi 5400 rpm, serial port, and 2.5 inch hard drive. the Fujitsu P7230 uses Toshiba 4200 rpm, parallel port, and 1.8 inch hard drive.

Through the test results, we can see that there is almost no difference in the disk performance in the new and old Windows operating systems, that is, the disk performance will not change because of the use of different Windows operating systems, disk performance has no significant impact on the performance of the entire system after the OS is changed.

Test summary:

Through a series of comparative tests above, we can see that if a user uses a dual-core processor with an independent graphics card laptop, the overall performance of the Vista operating system is almost the same as that of the XP system, in some applications, the Vista operating system is still ahead. It can be seen that the Vista operating system optimizes the performance of the dual-core processor. Of course, for the moment, the Game Performance of the Vista operating system is significantly different from that of the XP system. The performance of a single-core processor and integrated graphics card laptop in the Vista operating system is slightly lower than that of the XP system, however, this performance gap is not very obvious during use.

Although the so-called Vista operating system, which is widely circulated on the Internet, is unfair, it is not unreasonable. This statement is only for machines with lower configurations, at the same time, the performance decline is not that huge. Fortunately, the current mainstream configurations of the laptop are in line with the above requirements, users do not have to be intimidated by this argument, think that Vista operating system is a storm. It seems that the expectations of various hardware vendors for the Vista operating system are not unreasonable. To achieve the same smooth running speed as XP, dual-core and dedicated memory, it is necessary.

In addition, it must be noted that many users feel that the Vista operating system is slower than the XP system, which is mainly caused by insufficient memory. The Vista operating system requires a lot of memory. The three laptops we tested in this test are all configured with 1 GB memory. If MB of memory is used for testing in the Vista operating system, the running speed of the entire machine will be intolerable. This feeling is similar to running various tests in the XP system with MB of memory, the MB memory must be idle for the Vista operating system, but it can ensure that the operation of the Vista operating system is only slow. The editor recommends that you configure dual-core, dedicated display and 1 GB memory if you want to smoothly switch to the Vista operating system, among the three items, the memory has the greatest impact on the running speed of the Vista operating system. In the final words, as long as the memory is large enough, the performance gap between the Vista operating system and the XP operating system is not obvious.

Postscript:

Is the Vista operating system good or the XP system good? This is not the topic discussed in this article. I think every user has their own needs. The editor's work machine uses the Windows XP operating system, and has no plans to upgrade to the Vista operating system recently, because many software and the Vista operating system still have some compatibility issues, in addition, the Vista operating system requires too much memory. The editor's home entertainment machine uses the Vista operating system, because the Vista operating system has some detailed design and functions (such as the system sidebar, however, the prompt that appears from time to time in the Vista operating system will also make me feel terrible. Maybe there is no perfect operating system. If the Vista system is perfect, Microsoft will no longer need to develop the next-generation operating system of Vista, regardless of the operating system or any hardware product, is not the best, only better. The more we change the operating system, the more calm and natural we need. Do not blindly pursue or resist, and find the best choice for ourselves.
