PD is a good database design tool. In the project of petelai, at first, the partner designed 10 tables with PD. We directly used forward engineering during project development, directly import the database designed by PD into SQLServer to create the database and table structure. With the development of the project, we have changed the table structure and number of tables. To ensure the consistency between the database and the PD graph, here we use reverse engineering to import databases to PD, Oracle, SQL Server, and other databases. We can use reverse engineering to import databases to PD. For SqlServer reverse engineering, you must first establish a database connection before performing reverse engineering operations. The following describes how to import a database to PowerDesigner15 by reverse engineering of SQL SERVER2008R2:

 

1. Create a PDM File

Open PD, File → New Model → Model types → PhySical Data Model → PhySical digoal.

2. establish a connection between the PD and the database

2.1 Open the "DataBase" menu and select "Configure Connections ..."

2.2 The "Configure Data Connections" window is displayed.

2.3 select a System Data Source

2.4 select the database you need

 

2.5 set the database address and sa account

2.6 Click Finish to test the connection.

So far, the ODBC connection with database SQL SERVER 2008 R2 has been established.

 

 

Iii. Reverse Engineering import database to PD

3.1 after establishing a Database connection, select File> Reverser Engineer> Database

 

3.2 click OK.

3.3 click Connect and select the tables and views to be imported, table objects, and general stored procedures.
