We often see a lot of image tutorials on the web that are created using 3D text, which typically uses a 3D program like 3dsmax,xara, Cinema 4D, and so on. If your goal is to create a simple 3d text, you can easily implement it with Photoshop.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to achieve such a 3D effect. In fact, you can use this simple technique to create stylish modern logos and icons. Let's get started!

Step 1
Open Photoshop, create a new file with a size of 1280 * 800px, and enter text in your file. The font I use is Avenger, which is a great font. can be downloaded free of charge in Dafont. The color I use is #14b2d9.

Step 2
Grid text, using the Transform tool (CTRL + T) to change the angle of the text, similar to the following figure.

Tips: Press CTRL + T and press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT to adjust the text to change the angle.

Step 3
Now to the important part, click on the text layer, hold down CTRL + ALT key, press the UP Arrow 8-10 times to copy the layer to create the 3D layer.

Step 4
Now we need to name the topmost layer as ' top ', merge all the other layers, and put it underneath the top layer. Rename this layer as ' BOTTOM '. Now, double click the ' BOTTOM ' layer to set the gradient overlay in the following figure:

Apply a gradient so that the darkest blue appears at the very end of the ' BOTTOM ' layer. This will give it a shadow effect, refer to the following figure.

Step 5
Now, we need to make the ' top ' layer look more prominent. Therefore, press CTRL + ALT + DOWN arrow 3 times to copy the ' top ' layer, merge these layers and rename ' middle '. Put this layer below the ' top ' layer, above the ' BOTTOM ' layer, apply layer style-color overlay-white, opacity about 20-30%

Step 6
Now, the edges don't look real. So we're going to add some vertical separation to the corners of each letter. Follow the instructions below to achieve this effect:

1. Create a new layer above the ' BOTTOM ' layer, named ' Edges '.
2. Choose a brush with a radius of 1px and a hardness of 100%.
3. Draw the straight line in the corner according to the picture.

Tip: Click on the top edge, hold down the SHIFT key and click on the bottom to create the perfect straight line, as shown below:

Now, set the opacity of the layer by about 10%

The result we create should be similar to the following figure:

Step 7
Now we need to add some lighting effects to the text. This can be done by darkening some parts of the ' BOTTOM ' layer. So, create a new layer, name ' lighting ', place it above the ' BOTTOM ' layer and create some strokes using about 30PX of soft brushes, as shown in the following illustration:

Step 8
Set this layer of blending mode to overlay, reduce opacity by about 10%. At this point, it is recommended to try the value of the opacity to achieve the desired effect. The image should look like this:

Step 9
It's interesting from now on because we're going to add more depth and real results. Create a new layer on top of the background layer and add a light blue to light gray gradient as follows:

Step 10
Using the Free Transform tool (CTRL + T), change the angle of the gradient layer to match the angle of the text. Refer to the following figure.

Step 11
Now, zoom the gradient layer so that it overwrites the entire file. This will provide a good background for us to add reflection.

Now, copy the ' Top ' and ' BOTTOM ' layers, merge them, place the new layer below the ' BOTTOM ' layer, and rename it ' REFLECTION '.

Step 12
Now is the most important step. Reduce the opacity of the ' REFLECTION ' layer to around 20%, and follow the steps described in the following figure:

This is to make sure that the reflection looks real. Based on this view, it adds a gradient mask.

Step 13
Now, copy just the ' top ' layer, apply the black color overlay, place it above the ' REFLECTION ' layer, and name this layer ' SHADOW '

Step 14
Apply a Gaussian blur of 2.3 pixels.

Step 15
Finished ~ We have successfully created a super cool 3D text in Photoshop. View the following picture.
