masks are grayscale, which translates different shades of gray into different transparency and acts on the layer in which it is located, resulting in corresponding changes in the transparency of different parts of the layer. Black is completely transparent and white is completely opaque. The mask is likened to a layer of mist on the glass. The thicker the fog, the outside of the window can see nothing, only a white one (to fill the mask filled with the whites); but any fog on the glass, the position can be clearly seen outside (indicating that the mask is filled with black), then if the wipe is not clean, you can only vaguely see outside (indicating different grayscale values of different effects). Visible masks are closely related to transparency, which makes it easy to understand that masks are a tool for controlling layer transparency .

There are four types of masks in Photoshop: Layer masks, vector masks, clipping masks, quick masks. The layer mask is the most powerful and most versatile type of mask available. The effect of the following three types of masks can be done, the same layer masks can be done. The role of layer masks is to limit the display of keying, soft image edges, compositing images, etc. This section focuses on the use of layer masks and clipping masks. These two are also used in high frequency.

1. Layer Masks

First select the layer you want to work with, click the icon in the Red box, add a mask for the layer, and a small white square on the right of the layer, which is the layer mask. White indicates that the layer is completely opaque. Click the left mouse button on the mask to select, use the Brush tool with different flow and transparency to apply, you can show a different transparency.

2. Clipping mask.

Clipping masks are restricted displays, the layers above are content, and the layers below are shapes. For example, just let the picture appear within the text area. Note the stacking order of the graphs.

Alt-Move the mouse to the middle of the two layer, the mouse becomes the shape shown, and the left-click creates a clipping mask. You can cancel a clipping mask by repeating the action.
