Urban style is a kind of city from the 90 's, in today's more and more intense design style, with messy, decadent, non-mainstream design effect, can mix a variety of items mixed together and produce strong visual impression, is a lot of fashion magazine, poster design love style. This Photoshop tutorial is to teach you to create a decadent urban style poster, the process is used by everyone familiar with the technology, including quick pull, custom materials and so on.

Let's take a look at the final effect:

Final effect Diagram

Preparatory work:

To create this poster, I collected some photos from the internet, including the girl listening to the song, the old radio and the giant stereo. You can choose the material you like to integrate, and then try to diversify according to the theme you set.

Material Picture Step 1

Before using the material, we first have to make a simple material effect, then we need it to add effect to the material.

Creates a blank document with a 800x600 pixel and presses "D" to set the foreground/background color to the default black and white.

Create new layer, use filter > Render > Cloud. Then use filter > Noise > Add Noise, set as follows: Quantity 50%, evenly distributed, monochrome. After applying the add noise effect, use the filter > Art > Dry Brush to set the following: Brush size 2, brush details 8, Texture 1.

Add noise again (quantity 50%, average distribution, monochrome) to the previous settings. Then to filter > Art > Painting, set the following figure: Brush size 7, sharpening degree 9, brush type: simple.

Figure 1

Step 2

Now use the filter > Brush stroke > Splash, set the following: Spray radius 20, smoothness 5. Then you should get the effect of the following figure.

Figure 2Step 3

Using the selection > Color range, select "High Light" from the "select" Pull-down menu and click OK so you can see that the high light area is selected. We need to press the DELETE key on the keyboard to delete the selection, and then remove the background layer, so that we get the desired material. Save it, wait for it to be used.

Figure 3

Step 4

Next you need to pull the picture and save the footage.

You can use the pen tool to pull a picture, and if you find it difficult to pull out some complex details, such as hair, refer to the method described in this article.

The picture of the girl with the flying hair silk, if you want to better dig out these details, you can use the channel method to pull the map. Switch to the channel panel to see which channel's characters and backgrounds have a high contrast. Here, the author chooses the green channel and copies it once, selecting the newly copied channel.

Figure 4

Step 5

Our goal is to select models accurately, so models should be as close to black as possible and as close to white as possible. So we need to black out the lighter positions on the model, including headphones and clothes. Use the pen to circle these ranges and fill the black.

Figure 5Step 6

Using Ctrl+m to open the Curve window, press the diagram to pull both ends to increase the contrast between the model and the background. You may need to repeat it several times to get the desired result, and you may find that there is no way to turn black in some places, then you need to manually select that part and fill it with black.

Figure 6

Step 7

When you are satisfied with the effect, use CTRL + Left-click the channel to load the selection. Press Shift+ctrl+i to reverse the selection. In the channel panel, click on the RGB channel, CTRL + C to copy the selection and copy it to the new 800x600 pixel blank document. Now you've successfully pulled out a picture of a model with hair details.

Figure 7

Step 8

We want to make the model look a bit decadent sad breath, use shift+ctrl+u to open the hue/Saturation window, reduce the saturation so that it looks close to black and white. Press CTRL+J to copy the layer once, change the blending mode of the new layer to overlay, and increase the contrast with the ctrl+m curve.

Figure 8Step 9

Do the same with other material graphs to reduce saturation, add them to the canvas, and put them in the back of the model as beautifully as possible. At this time can be different materials for grouping, convenient processing.

Figure 9

Step 10

Next, we need a wrinkle of white paper as a texture, you can crumple a piece of A4 to expand, scan or use a digital camera to shoot. Of course, you can also find similar images from the Internet.

Figure 10

Step 11

Copy this wrinkle to our working canvas and set the layer blending mode to overlay. In order to make the effect better, the paper texture can be reduced saturation and increase contrast processing. Merge the visible layers, and then create a rough selection with the following figure:

Figure 11

Step 12

First copy the texture we started with to a new blank document, set the opacity of the texture to 15%. Then copy the contents of the selection to the new document.

Fill the background layer with your favorite color, so that the image is detached from the background, and the author uses a light yellow that resembles a paper bag. Here the author adds two scribbled note patterns, which are drawn with a brush and then copied to the previous wrinkle-paper texture and "cut out" to the new document in the same manner.

Don't forget to add shadows to these images, so it looks like "really" cut out of the paper and stick to the background.

Figure 12

Step 13

Then the author adds some halftone patterns and splash brushes as a background, and if you don't know the techniques, see the Photoshop CS3 filter for printing and a trendy CD cover with Photoshop, which has the skills to add effect to the work. When you find that certain images are good for your material, such as some urban landscapes, you can reduce saturation, increase saturation, and set the blending mode to overlay the canvas, just like the following final effect chart:

Summarize:

Hope this tutorial will be inspired by your future works, in which the techniques of making texture materials should have some guiding significance. In addition, the production of such posters, you will find that there is no need to haggle over a lot of details, such as hair, such as the delicate part of a simple channel to pull the map can greatly accelerate the speed of your design work
