In this tutorial I will show you how to create a nice cool lighting effect with Photoshop. We'll use layer styles and blending modes to simulate neon text.
Step 1
Open Photoshop to create a new document. I'm using a 1920x1200 pixel. After importing the brick texture, I use one of the Shutterstock, you can download download it here (unfortunately, but also need to pay)
Step 2
Select the texture layer to image > Adjust > Hue and Saturation. Use 0 tones, 45 saturation and-85 brightness.
Step 3
Add a new layer, go to filter > Render > Cloud. Make sure your front view is black and the background color is white. Use the Eraser tool (E) to erase the edges of the area, leaving only the center of the image. Then change the blending mode to color dodge.
Step 4
Enter the text content of the neon effect you want to use. I'm using a zee. Copy the layer and hide it because we need to use a copy in the tutorial later. Select the visible flag layer, go to filter > Blur > Gaussian blur. Use a 15-pixel radius.
Step 5
Follow the chart to set the layer style. We will use a projection, inner shadow, outer glow, bevel and emboss as well as color overlay.
