Water is a complex thing. It is transparent and has many forms of existence. Although water looks simple, relative to composition-there is no way to paint water once and for all. Although you are not really painting the water, but the water is seen in this world.

In this tutorial I will show you how to draw the most common forms of frozen water: ice pick, snow, snow, frost, ice, and hail. We use layer styles, custom brushes, blending modes, filters, pattern and mixer brush tools, and so on.

Step 1

Select a good background (the transparent object cannot have no background) to create a new layer and use the Lasso tool to draw the ice pick shape. You can draw it with your mouse and the ice pick should be a little bumpy.

Step 2

Fill any color with the paint bucket tool.

Step 3

CTRL+J Copy the background layer and place it on the ice pick, ctrl+alt+g (or CTRL + click) to create the clipping mask.

Step 4

Blur the original background layer with Gaussian. To separate the background from the ice pick.

Step 5

Shrink the copied background layer ctrl+t to the ice pick. This is a good way to make the ice transparent. In other cases, the horizontal flip will have a better effect.

Step 6

Ctrl+m the Curve tool, pulling down a bit to darken the ice pick.

Step 7

Copy the ice pick layer and place it at the top of the layer. We'll create a style on this layer.

Step 8

Double-click the layer to pull up the style window. Make the ice pick transparent by adjusting the fill opacity to 0. Remember: The exact parameters are determined by the size of the picture, understand and adjust the effect you want instead of copying my parameters directly.

Step 9

Turn on the inner glow-it will harden the edge of the ice pick.

Use the overlay style to make the edges Glow (1).

Turn the color to white (4).

The resizing makes the light distribute at the Edge (5).

Add point noise to get the bubble effect inside the ice pick (3).

Change the opacity to produce the desired effect (2).

Step 10

Open the inner shadow-it will better enhance the icing on the ice.

Adjusts the blending mode to overlay (1).

Adjust the contour to conical-inverted (4).

Adjust position, block, size to make shadow in the middle (3).

Add a bit of noise (5).

Change the effect of opacity (2).

Step 11

Turn on the gradient overlay--use it to increase the frost surface for the ice pick.

Adjust the blending mode to filter (1).

Click on the gradient bar, click on the white mark, and drag the middle diamond to the right, reducing the White range (3).

If you want a coarse effect, you can change the opacity (2).

Step 12

Add texture to the ice pick by opening the pattern overlay.

Set the blending mode to soft light (1).

Use satin Texture (micro-disk download) (Snap to Origin) (3).

Scale patterns to avoid smooth, repetitive styles (3).

If you want to adjust the effect strength, you can change the opacity (2).

Step 13

Open bevel and embossed textures-add final luster to ice pick.

Select the same pattern as before (1).

Scale and match the previous approximate (2).

Step 14

The main bevel and Emboss:

Contour Selection Ring (2).

Change shadow opacity to 0 (4).

Adjust the size to get the perfect high light effect (1).

If you want to adjust the effect, you can change the opacity of the High Light (3).

Step 15

If you want, you can use the default outer glow style to add a little flash effect.

Step 16

If you use a new style, you can easily reuse it. Apply a style to each new ice pick!
