The following are examples of how to make and process:
Press the CTRL + N key combination on your keyboard, or the "file → new" command on the menu bar, open the New dialog box, and set the reference Figure 2.1-38

Create a vertical guide in the middle of the document window, select the Rectangular Marquee tool (shortcut M), and press the ALT key to create a rectangular selection for the center of Symmetry, as shown in Figure 2.1-39.

Select the Gradient tool (accelerator m) and set the gradient on the options bar to "linear gradient" (the location of the point-selected chart 2.1-41 labeled 2).
Click the position labeled 1 in the options bar shown in Figure 2.1-40 to open the gradient editor and set the gradient, as shown in Figure 2.1-41

Create a new layer, press the SHIFT key, creating a horizontal gradient for the starting and ending points of the two vertical edges of the rectangular selection, and get the results shown in Figure 2.1-42.
