Final effect

1, open the background of the image below, the background layer to copy a layer, blending mode to "multiply", opacity to: 50%, add layer mask, with a black brush to wipe out the middle part, the effect as shown.

2, open the character material, use the pen to pull out the characters.

3, back to just the document, a new group, the characters dragged into the group, Executive: Edit > Transform > Horizontal Flip, appropriate size and position. Then tune into a character selection to add a layer mask to the group, as shown in figure.

4, create a new layer below the character layer, select the gradient tool, color settings such as the figure, from top to bottom pull out the linear gradient shown below.
