In this Photoshop tutorial I will show you how to create a wood mosaic effect using wood textures, layer masks, and some creative selection techniques.
Step 1
First let's build a new document, and mine is 540x300 pixel, 72ppi. Size is not important. On the internet can find a lot of good wood texture, I use the texture on the defcon–x.de. We will first create 3 layers and paste each wood texture separately. Color is not important, the important thing is the tone of the wood, for this I chose a light, moderate, deep a few pieces. In the layer I put the most light on the bottom, the dark on the top (as pictured), because I want to use the most light texture as the background of the image.
Textures on defcon-x are have a high resolution, and you may want to use the free transform function to resize them to fit your work.
Step 2
Next, we need to select a font. In order to achieve the effect I want, the font I use is Bifurk and can be downloaded free of charge in dafont.com.
Select the top layer of the wood texture and use the type tool to enter the text you want to add.
