Photoshop uses lab mode to add enchantment to images

I believe you have heard RGB or CMYK (often used for printing), and lab is the most widely used pattern, according to Adobe, "the values in lab describe all the colors that humans see with normal vision," and the method of operation is different from the most common RGB, so you can change it to lab when you fix the diagram. Color space to repair, there will be some important advantages. It sounds a bit complicated, but it's really easy to do.

1 first open the above image, and then turn on "Convert to Profile" (this article takes Photoshop CC as a demonstration)

2 in the pop-up window of the "profile" select "lab color", and then determine.

3 The picture does not seem to change, at this time you add a curve adjustment layer in the picture, to adjust the color curve.

4 after opening you will find that the RGB is no longer the three primary colors of the curve, and is lightness (L), A and B three channel, because Lab is actually refers to brightness, a (green to red) and B (blue to yellow).

5 One of the most important characteristics of lab is that you can separate the brightness and color to deal with, so after the conversion to Lab color space, you can use the curve to adjust the color, but does not affect the brightness of the photo, and vice versa. If you imagine the color of the picture more prominent, you can like the following figure, the A and B channel respectively to reduce both ends, pay attention to the same value, so that the photo color will become more vivid.

If you feel too bright, you can adjust the curve, or the transparency of the layer. You can notice that the distribution of A and B are only concentrated in the middle position, that is because lab color gamut than RGB, so adjust the elasticity and change in fact more, and in RGB mode is limited.

Maybe you'll find that the effect, and we generally use the saturation to adjust almost, but in fact, you will find that the use of Lab + curve can be more accurate and changeable adjustment, and because the gamut, not like the adjustment of saturation, it is easy to cause the image collapse.

On the other hand, because RGB can not only adjust color in nature without affecting brightness, so the saturation function in PS is actually in lab to calculate. In any case, it is better and more resilient to switch to lab and adjust colors through curves or levels than simply to adjust the saturation.
