I've been thinking about it. Two core systems in the process of manufacturing enterprise Informatization where is the line between PLM and ERP? Here are some of their own summary, is a start.   Many of the theories we see today are probably summed up in the PLM management of virtual product value chain and ERP management is the value chain of the real thing:   PLM Virtual product value chain: That is, the product information flow process related to research and development, from the customer needs information, research and Development department technical requirements- Virtual products for after-sales maintenance and virtual products designed by > Research and Development Department, as well as virtual product-&gt for the research and development Department of raw materials/components information provided by suppliers. So in this sense, PLM covers requirements management, supplier management, research and development process management, MRO and other management processes, involving departments mainly purchasing Materials Department, Research and Development department, after-sales service department, marketing/Sales Department (Customer demand) and product development related project Management department.   ERP Physical Value: That is, the actual sales of product information flow process, from the beginning of the sales order, supplier raw material procurement----factory scheduling production----interactive collection. Therefore, it covers sales order management (customer management), material inventory management, plant production planning management, logistics management and financial management, several of the major management modules will have a strong data logic relationship, especially in the course of each module in the operation of the flow of goods will be in the financial module hook up, So the core of ERP is the actual material and financial management of the enterprise. Involved in department finance Department, sales department, material purchasing department, Production department, logistics department and so on.   If two systems exist at the same time, each other must establish an effective mechanism of information flow or synchronization, the following is a common pattern:  -PLM as the only data source of enterprise product information, ERP as the Enterprise daily operation of the financial and material flow support platform;  -PLM for the ERP is the product sales required for product information, material procurement of raw materials used in the information, production and manufacturing required by the product BOM and process information;  -ERP provides PLM with raw material supplier, inventory and cost information, which has been used to consider the cost of the product during the design process;   So enterprises in the information process in the end to PLM or ERP as the ultimate Enterprise IT architecture core? Personally feel that this mainly depends on the company's own positioning, a product development-oriented especially high-end manufacturing of its product development complex cycle long, but its batch and production sales are not small such as aircraft manufacturers, engine manufacturers, ship manufacturers, etc. can be considered to build PLM as the core of enterprise IT architecture; But for manufacturing and sales-oriented enterprises, its own product development is not very difficult as long as the focus on production and sales of fully availableEnterprise IT architecture with ERP as its core.

The informatization of manufacturing enterprises consists of four main business areas , represented by four major IT information systems, respectively. They are: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, supply chain management (SCM) systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, and product life cycle Management (PLM) systems. The organic combination of the four kinds of information systems is an important part of Enterprise informatization. Enterprises can choose one or several kinds of systems to construct their own enterprise Informatization framework system according to their own situation and specific business problems. The idea that enterprise informatization is the implementation of ERP system is very one-sided and harmful.

In ERP, SCM, CRM and PLM four systems, PLM growth and maturity took the longest time, and the most difficult to be understood and compared with other systems, it is because so far, it is only one side to the product innovation system, but also the most interoperable system. For example, if an enterprise uses PLM software to truly manage a product's entire lifecycle for manufacturing purposes, it needs to integrate with other systems, especially with ERP.
