Poor outlook on Vista

Seven months ago, Vista was officially released for the Enterprise Edition. It has been around for six months. What does Vista Do?

On July 6, July 30, PatchLink released a market research report, which found Vista (Enterprise Edition) had a poor outlook. According to the survey, PatchLink found that fewer companies are planning to switch to Vista than they did seven months ago. What is this? PatchLink conducted a public opinion survey on more than 250 users and found that only five enterprises (2% of the total) have upgraded to the Vista platform, another 9% of enterprises said they planned to migrate to the Vista platform in the next three months. The vast majority of enterprises under investigation, that is, 87%, indicates that they are "not moving" (meaning that they stay on the existing windows platform ). This situation is rather bad than in last December. In May last December, when Vista Enterprise Edition was just released, according to a similar survey in Scottsdale, 43% of enterprises indicated that they had switched to the Vista platform within one year, enterprises that are "not moving" only account for 53%. No one could think of it at the time. Seven months later, this number rose to 87%! This is a big blow to Microsoft's Vista sales.

According to a "public opinion test" in PatchLink in March, 28% of enterprises said they had migrated to the Vista platform within one year. However, according to this survey, this number is reduced to 11% (less than half of the previous one )! Why? PatchLink found that, half a year ago, 50% of CIOs, IT, and network management believed that Vista was more secure than Win XP. At the same time, according to that investigation, only 15% of respondents said they suspected that vista would be safer Than Win XP, and "uncertain" said they accounted for 35% of the total. However, today's situation is quite different from last year. According to the PatchLink survey, only 28% of respondents agreed that "Vista is safer than Win XP", and the disagree rate rose to 24%, this means that the ratio of "uncertain" has risen to an astonishing level of 49%.

In fact, half a year after the release of Vista Enterprise Edition, people (mainly enterprise managers) have a significant decline in their "Confidence" in it, and Vista's "reputation" is not very good. PatchLink pointed out that this situation provides a great opportunity for Linux (including Mac OS X) to enter enterprise applications (the second round. PatchLink pointed out that, compared with last year, only 2% of enterprise managers have noticed the application of the Linux platform, but this number has increased to 8% this year. At the same time, 4% of enterprises are willing to switch to the Mac OS X platform. This is really bad for Vista.

In Vista's home market, the situation may be worse. Microsoft China announced in August 1 that the retail price of Vista's common household edition had been adjusted from 1,521 yuan to 499 yuan, shrinking by 2/3. Microsoft has changed from its "unified pricing globally" strategy to "flexible market price adjustment" for different market needs. Microsoft's large price reduction measures in China are inevitable because of the suspicion of "dumping products" to maintain its monopoly in the market. I remember Dr. Fang Xingdong once pointed out that the end of Microsoft's "Global unified pricing" strategy means the beginning of Microsoft's "global decline. However, in the current situation, the global software ecosystem needs the support of Microsoft, especially in China, Microsoft is an indispensable and important software force. Judging from the rational perspective, in the current historical development stage, China's software industry needs Microsoft. In the next ten years, Microsoft will also be a required role in the long battle between free software and private software in China. Microsoft is our friend and a well-behaved "businessman friend ". However, if you stand on the standpoint of free software, you have to approve Microsoft's "don't discuss" on some key issues ".
