Overseas media news, which is expected to be approved by HomePlug AV for a long time, supports high-speed Internet access through ordinary power lines in the home or office, and products are expected to be listed as soon as next spring.
HomePlug power alliance announced this week. The HomePlug AV program originated from HomePlug 1.0 three years ago and will meet the network technology needs of high-definition TVs and other home digital entertainment.
Andy Melder is senior deputy director of the business strategy development department of intellion and one of the main participants in this standard. He said that the theoretical maximum transmission rate of HomePlug 1.0 is 14 MB per second, which is actually about 4.5 MB. The theoretical maximum transmission rate of HomePlug AV is 200 MB per second, and the actual transmission rate is 70-100 MB.
This new standard includes quality service (Qos) to ensure smooth video and audio, as well as 128-bit AES encryption, which is much more reliable than HomePlug 1.0's 56-bit DES encryption. In addition, HomePlug AV can work normally on coaxial cables and telephone lines.
Peter Griffin, chairman of HomePlug Power Alliance, believes that this is a breakthrough technology that consumers expect. It will change the current status of digital home networks and become the preferred multimedia distributed technology.
Intellion expects the first batch of HomePlug AV chips to be available by the end of September this year. Melder expects to see the prototype and commercial products of the HomePlug AV adapter in next January. However, he also reminded us that the first batch of HomePlug AV integrated with the set-top box and digital video functions will be available in about a year.
Jonathan Gaw is an analyst at IDC who specifically tracks the home network industry. He believes that although HomePlug AV is a promising technology, it faces severe challenges in the market,
From a technical perspective, HomePlug AV is an alternative to other network technologies, such as coaxial cables, Wi-Fi and Ethernet for cable TVs.
Although Wi-Fi has achieved some success in network sharing, it is still in its infancy in high-end applications, such as video and audio transmission over the home network. It is not too late for HomePlug AV to enter this market.
However, HomePlug must bear the negative impact of history. Because of the poor performance of early power line products, some early users do not report hope for it. At the same time, because HomePlug 1.0 products are unsalable, some sellers are reluctant to try new HomePlug products.
However, Melder believes that HomePlug AV has many significant advantages over its competitors. Once people realize the limitations of Wi-Fi in multimedia, especially in the smooth transmission of streaming media, the dominant position of Wi-Fi in home networks will no longer exist.
HomePlug AV also faces strong competition from cable TV, which provides clearer signals and better digital permission management through the cable network. Cable TV also provides a set-top box with a built-in router.
However, Melder believes that wired networks are North American Solutions. Cable networks are not widely used. Most households have almost no cable outlets, but each household has a large number of power outlets.
