Prepare for ESXi 6.0

VMware VSphere 6.0 was officially released on March 12, 2015 (Thursday). VMware VSphere 6.0 is an industry-leading virtualization platform that enables users to confidently virtualize scale-out and scale-out applications, redefine availability, and simplify virtual datacenters. The result is a highly available, resilient on-demand infrastructure that is the ideal foundation for any cloud computing environment. As a complete set of solutions, we start with the most basic server virtualization product ESXi.

1. ESXi 6.0 hardware and system requirements

1.1 To install or upgrade ESXi 6.0, your hardware and system resources must meet the following requirements:
A. The supported server platforms, storage, NIC and processor requirements are described in the VMware Compatibility Guide at: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility

B. ESXi 6.0 requires a host with at least two CPU cores.
C. ESXi 6.0 requires the NX/XD bit to be enabled in the BIOS for the CPU.
D. ESXi requires at least 4GB of physical RAM. (Production environment According to the actual demand)
E. To support 64-bit virtual machines, the x64 CPU must be capable of supporting hardware virtualization (Intel vt-x or AMD RVI).

2. Options for installing ESXi

2.1  Interactive ESXi Installation: install from a CD, DVD, USB media, or PXE network, which is the traditional way to install, for small business ESXi hosts.
2.2  scripted ESXi Installation: write scripts in advance and deploy multiple ESXi hosts with no manual intervention installation, which is applied to large enterprise ESXi hosts in many cases.

2.3 Auto Deploy ESXi installation:vsphere 5.x and vsphere 6.0 provide several ways to install ESXi using Auto deploy, which can be found in the official documentation.
2.4 Custom installation using the ESXi Image Builder CLI: You can use the ESXi Image Builder CLI to create an ESXi installation image with a custom set of updates, patches, and drivers.
