Install applications on workstations in LAN Program This article describes how to use the Symantec Ghost 7.5 Enterprise Edition console to connect to a network (20 workstations in total, 10 of which are Pentium III and Windows 98 systems, in addition, 10 workstations in Pentium 4 and Windows XP are used to install unattended applications.

Step 1: Create an AI package on the workstation. The AI package created using Symantec Ghost Enterprise Edition is actually an application image. It is created based on changes in the file system and registry key before and after the application is installed, therefore, it can only be distributed to computers with the same operating system and similar hardware configurations. According to this requirement, the 20 workstations are divided into two groups according to the operating system: Windows 98 group and Windows XP group, you can use the Symantec Ghost Enterprise Edition console to deploy the application AI package on any workstation in each group. Next we will first create an AI package on any workstation in the Windows 98 group.

Put the Symantec Ghost 7.5 Enterprise Edition (Chinese version) installation disk into the optical drive, as shown in 1, click "Install AI Snapshot" in the pop-up dialog box, press enter several times to complete the installation. Click the "Start" menu and the Program Group "Symantec Ghost" is the software we just installed. Start the AI Snapshot program and click "Next". By default, AI Snapshot reads files and registry keys in all partitions. After reading, select the application installer and click "Monitor". Then, the application Installation Wizard starts, click "previous" on AI Snapshot, select the installer for other applications, and click "Monitor" again to install the application. In the same way, install all the applications to be installed on the workstation. After the last application is installed, click "Compare" on AI Snapshot ", at this time, AI Snapshot reads the system again and compares the Information read twice. After the comparison is complete, the AI Snapshot dialog box is displayed, indicating that the comparison is complete and the result is saved in the configuration file. Click Close to close the dialog box. Next, AI Snapshot is ready to generate the AI package. Click "generate". Then, the images of all the applications you have installed will be packed in the AI package.

In the same way, create an application AI package on any workstation in the Windows XP group.

Step 2: Install the console and client. The console can deploy an AI package to the workstation. In practice, we install the consoles on servers in the LAN. In addition, we need to implement console control over the workstation, you must also install the console client program on each workstation.

1. Click "Install Symantec Ghost Enterprise Edition". We will install the console on the server. 2. Select "Console (including standard toolkit)" When selecting the installation type )". Of course, if you install it on a workstation, You need to select "client" for installation. However, we can also use the console to remotely install the client program on the workstation.

Figure 2

Start the installed console, execute "Tools> remote client installation" on the menu bar, select any workstation in the "network" dialog box, and click "Install ", the console client program is installed on the workstation.

Step 3: group workstations on the console. After the client is installed on the workstation, if the network works normally, the workstation will be displayed in the "default" folder of the "computer group" on the console. If you deploy AI packages for these workstations separately, it seems very troublesome. A scientific way is to group them and then create a deployment task for each group. Because the console allows multiple tasks to be executed at the same time, so we can deploy AI packages to these workstations at the same time.

3. Select the "computer group" folder in the left window, right-click the folder in the right window, and select the "new folder" command to create a new folder and rename it "Windows 98 group, move the computer with the same operating system and similar hardware in the "default" folder to this folder.

Figure 3

In the same way, create another group "Windows XP group ".
Step 4: Configure AI package resources. Generally, we store the AI package on the server. Because the two AI packages we created above are still on the workstation, You need to copy the AI package to the server. The console also provides file transfer and dumping functions. If your ai package is large, we recommend that you use this function to save them to the appropriate location on the server.

Next we will configure the AI package in the console.

4. Select the "Ai package" folder in the left window, right-click the folder in the right window, and select the "new AI package" command, in the displayed dialog box, specify the location of the AI package created on Windows 98 workstation and name it "Windows 98-ai". Then, click "OK ", the AI package is added to the "Ai package" folder.

Figure 4

Use the same method to add an application AI package created on a Windows XP workstation.

Step 5: create a task and deploy the AI package. Everything is ready, and we have nothing to do. As long as we create two tasks to deploy the AI package on the console, we can deploy the application AI package to the other 18 workstations at the same time, install each application on each workstation.

In the left window, select the "task" folder, right-click in the right window, and select the "new task" command. The "new task attributes" dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 5, because we only deploy an AI package for the workstation, select the "deploy AI package" check box in "task step". In the "name" text box, name the task "deploying an AI package for Windows 98", click "Browse", and select the target computer group to be deployed as "Windows 98 group ". Switch the dialog box to the "deploy AI package" tab, click "Browse" in the "installation package", select the "Windows 98-ai" Ai package to be deployed, and click "OK ", A task for deploying AI packages for Windows 98 is added to the "tasks" folder.

Figure 5

In the same way, add an AI package deployment task to the Windows XP group.

In the "task" folder, select the two tasks and execute "File> execute task" on the menu bar. Then, the console begins to deploy the AI package to the 18 workstations.

Because the AI package we created is an unattended image of multiple applications, you can do other things as long as your network works normally. When you come back, you will find that the workstations on the network are working properly.
