Prevention of data leakage: Five data management methods in 2018 and five data management methods in 2018

Many people have heard of the saying "data is King", but such expression may have a completely new meaning in 2018. With the explosive growth of data at an unprecedented level, many things are happening in today's market. Compliance with regulations is no longer a choice but a requirement. Enterprises adopt multi-cloud services and are committed to reducing costs, but maintaining data visibility is never so important.

At the same time, it is absolutely necessary to prevent data leakage. Furthermore, collecting as many insights as possible from the data may be the difference between the success and failure of many organizations.

So what does this mean for CIOs and IT decision makers? The following are the five predictions of data management in 2018. It will be an exciting year for those who regard challenges as opportunities.

1. The IT department will take responsibility for cloud computing data management and reduce costs

In a 2017 survey, Veritas found that 69% of organizations mistakenly believe that data protection, data privacy, and compliance are the responsibilities of cloud computing service providers, the ideas of these organizations indicate that they are more likely to experience data leaks and regulatory violations. At present, many customers put costs aside for multi-cloud deployment and application, and IT costs will suddenly get out of control in 2018.

The IT department will find that they are responsible for cloud computing management, because they may face security vulnerabilities or compliance issues, and the company's chief financial officer will demand lower infrastructure costs.

2. The severity of data leakage will increase

As the severity of Data leaks rapidly increases, people will gradually wake up. According to a survey by the U.S. identity theft resource center of a non-profit organization, 2016 Data leaks occurred in 1,093, up 2015 from 40%. Almost reached this level in July 2017. This allows enterprises to periodically protect and back up their workloads in a simple and comprehensive way, which is more important than ever. This method must be flexible, agile, and scalable, especially when ransomware attacks the workload.

3. The first companies to be punished by GDPR regulations will be enterprises outside Europe

Obviously, in terms of data management, enterprises must prepare for the response, especially the EU's general data protection regulations ". Veritas believes that the first companies to be punished by GDPR regulations will be enterprises outside Europe.

The implementation date of GDPR is coming soon (May 25, 2018 ). In a Veritas survey, 1/3 (31%) Worldwide said they would comply with and be compatible with GDPR regulations. Only 2% of enterprises may receive complaints. The penalties for violations are very severe, and this regulation will affect every company involved in EU residents' data.

However, more and more enterprises are taking bold measures in terms of data compliance and promoting internal cultural transformation. Research by Veritas found that many companies are deploying new processes and policies, including training, rewards, and contract updates to support compliance with GDPR. Therefore, employees of an enterprise will better understand their roles in protecting organization data. For enterprise employees who do not take compliance seriously, their bonuses and benefits may be negatively affected.

4. Data management will be significantly improved from Analysis

With the development of analysis technology, traditional archiving, backup, and storage sessions will not only "Increase capacity", but enterprises will benefit from this.

It is expected that the new data evaluation technology will be driven by artificial intelligence, and enterprises will reshape information lifecycle management through automatic and more intelligent data management actions of policy implementation. Organizations will also use their traditional knowledge base to release insights and support new discoveries, sales plans, and customer experiences in various vertical fields.

5. Data will grow exponentially, but data storage will slow down

Last year's data growth soared to 48.7%, consuming valuable storage capacity at an astonishing rate. In fact, more than 50% of the files stored in an organization are "unknown.

In 2018, successful companies moved their storage policies from the "Save everything" mentality to identifying and storing data that provides valuable insights or mission-critical information.

Enterprises that can gain the advantage of data management will be in a favorable position in 2018. Being a good compliant person, adopting artificial intelligence, and understanding the security challenges will enable companies to significantly reduce the risk of fines, without compromising their reputation.

In short, opportunities to improve data hygiene, security, and management will enable companies to provide customers with better experiences and ultimately increase customer loyalty, revenue, and brand reputation.
