1. The subnet mask is the IP reference:
Split the network segment with!
Like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2.
(1). Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
So 192.168.0.X in the same network segment, can access each other.
(2). Hope the Mask is 255.255.0.0
So 192.168.x.x in the same network segment, can access each other.

2. The default subnet mask for a, B, and C classes should be quite obvious:

Class structure Default Mask

Class A nh.h.h 255.0.0.0

Class B n.nh.h 255.255.0.0

Class C N.n.nh 255.255.255.0
