As the main series of Dell Business Machines, Dell Latitude E has many brand-new features not available in series D.
The hard disks of the eseries are no exception. After IRRT is added, three modes are available in the eseries BIOS: "IRRT, one is "ATA mode" (compatible mode, which maps SATA hard disks to the system's ide channel), and the third is "ahci" mode.
ATA and ahci are clear to everyone. The former is compatible mode and the latter is the most common SATA support mode. IRRT is Intel's fast recovery technology, supports raid0 backup to better support multiple hard disks.

FAQ 1: How can I change from IRRT/ATA to ahci?
Description: The default hard disk mode of the eseries is IRRT (Vista/7 at the factory), and Ata (XP at the factory) is a small part ), to improve the hard disk performance or solve the possible card tone problem of the e6400 in IRRT mode (there is already a better solution, please read down patiently), you need to change the SATA mode to ahci.
This process is not easy for the E Series Oil. XP is good, but if Vista or 7 is installed in IRRT mode, changing the hard disk mode to ahci will cause many problems. After so long, I finally had a perfect solution, which is summarized as follows:

Solution and steps:
For Vista/7
1.
Download and install the Intel matrix stoarge driver
(Http://ftp.us.dell.com/SATA/Intel_Matrix-Storage-Manager_A01_R235902.exe), do not restart.
2. start, type Regedit in search, and press Enter. Find and click the following registry subitem: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/system/CurrentControlSet/services/msahci to find start ", change the value to 0 and disable the registry.
PS: This step is from Microsoft's official website
3. Download the attachment intel gm45 ahci.zip, decompress it, and double-click the Registry file to import it.
4. Restart, press f2 to enter bios, change SATA mode from IRRT to ahci, and apply
5. Restart to enter the system. After entering the system, you will be prompted to restart the system.
If you are an XP
1. Download and decompress the attachment ahci-xp.rar. Copy the ata2ahci folder to your computer's hard disk.
2. Open the prepare directory and double-click the "Install" file to automatically complete the installation.
3. Restart f2 to enter bios, change SATA operation to ahci mode, and click Apply.
4. Restart and enter the system.
A very small number of XP users may encounter the problem that the driver cannot be installed and the blue screen is still displayed after the restart, so we try a backup solution.
1. The first step above
2. Start the Device Manager (my computer, right-click, property, hardware, and Device Manager), expand the ide ata/atapi controller, and right-click the main ide channel (there are 2, usually the bottom one), update the driver
3. On the displayed tab, click Update driver, select your own driver, click Install from disk, find the downloaded and decompressed ata2ahci folder in the path, and select iaachi. INF, OK, then choose Intel (r) ICH9M-E/M SATA Controller
4. Next, you will be prompted to restart. Press F2 after the restart to enter the bios and change the SATA mode to ahci. Then, you can do it as shown in the figure above, without a blue screen.
FAQ 2: solving the e6400 card sound problem in IRRT Mode
Description: After the optical drive is plugged in, whether it is using any player to listen to music or watch a movie, there will be a card and a card. When it gets stuck, it is a bit like a current sound, but the symptoms disappear after the optical drive is detached.
Solution and steps:
In fact, this is not a problem with IRRT Technology (IRRT technology itself is definitely a good thing, and Dell will not always do anything thankless), but the old version of Intel driver is not doing well, the new version of the driver has solved this problem perfectly.
Download Dell's latest intel matrix Storage Manager:
7/Vista

XP

After installation, follow the prompts to restart. The card sounds are annoying.
