2 adding hardware to the server and re-planning RAID2.1 adding RAID cards and hard drives

When the host shuts down, unplug the power cord, put on the IBM server random anti-static gloves, open the server chassis, in the upper right corner of the server chassis, plug in the RAID cache card (actually a cache, for the IBM 3650 M4 motherboard integrated serve raid-m5110e extension. The standard is no cache, can support RAID0/1/10, when the cache is plugged in, can be upgraded to support RAID5/6). Figure 1-1-4 is the cache card we want to plug in, figure 1-1-5 is the inserted photo (in the upper-right corner of the server).

(3) After entering the RAID card configuration interface, the current configuration information is displayed on the right. In this example, a hard disk with 6 930.390GB hard drives (1TB) is not configured, as shown in 1-3-3. A 110.827GB hard drive has been configured to be RAID0 (a single hard drive can only be configured as RAID0). Our figure is not the first time after adding a raid card. If you did not add the RAID5 card (or upgrade the cache), after adding the RAID5 card, the original configuration of the hard disk will be reconfigured.

Figure 1-3-9 Add to span

"description" span is logically a number of physical disks are concatenated together one by one, providing a large logical disk. The data on span is simply stored from the first disk, when the storage space for the first disk is exhausted, and then the data is stored sequentially from the subsequent disk. Span access performance is exactly the same as access to a single disk. Span also does not provide data security. It simply provides a way to take advantage of disk space, where the storage capacity of span equals the sum of the capacity of all the disks that make up the span.

(10) If there is additional space, you can continue adding. When the add is complete, click the "Next" button, shown in 1-3-10.

650) this.width=650; "Style=" background-image:none;border-bottom:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-left:0px ;p adding-right:0px;border-top:0px;border-right:0px;padding-top:0px; "title=" clip_image030 "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image030 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/5B/4C/wKioL1UGNPrBPyV2AAFgeHW24RU606.jpg "height=" 428 "/>

Figure 1-3-10 Add complete

(11) In the next interface, select the RAID level, strip size, logical volume size, and so on. At "RAID level", the RAID levels are selected and are currently available for RAID0, RAID10 (shown as RAID 1), RAID5. Shown in 1-3-11. The available capacity is shown in the lower-right corner when different RAID levels are present. For example, in this example, there are 6 1TB hard drives (930.390GB per hard drive), the usable capacity is 5.451TB (6 hard disk capacity) when selecting the raid 0 level, the available capacity is 2.725TB (3 HDD capacity) When RAID10 is selected, and when RAID 5 o'clock is selected, Available capacity is 4.542TB (5 HDD capacity).

650) this.width=650; "Style=" background-image:none;border-bottom:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-left:0px ;p adding-right:0px;border-top:0px;border-right:0px;padding-top:0px; "title=" clip_image032 "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image032 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/5B/51/wKiom1UGM9Xhgx7lAAF1Btr3y8w763.jpg "height=" 428 "/>

Figure 1-3-11 Radi level and capacity

If it is a large-capacity ordinary hard disk, such as the 5400-rpm, 1TB hard disk In this example, it is recommended to use RAID 10, because this has better performance, if it is 10K SAS hard disk, such as 600G, 10000 RPM SAS hard disk, in the balance of performance, capacity, while the proposed RAID 5. When doing RAID 5 o'clock, it is generally recommended that a maximum of 5~6 block drives be in each group. For example, when there are 10 hard drives, you can choose 5 blocks to do two sets of RAID 5. This takes into account safety and performance.

(12) in "Strip Size", the value to choose is 8KB, 16KB, 32KB, 64KB, 128KB, 256KB, 512KB, 1MB. For larger IO reads and writes, select a larger value, or a smaller value for smaller IO reads and writes. In this example, storage is used for virtualized applications, where storage space is assigned to ESXi, which is then allocated to the virtual machine by ESXi. In a virtual machine-based application, it is recommended to select a larger value, as shown in 1mb,1-3-12.

650) this.width=650; "Style=" background-image:none;border-bottom:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-left:0px ;p adding-right:0px;border-top:0px;border-right:0px;padding-top:0px; "title=" clip_image034 "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image034 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/5B/51/wKiom1UGM9WRMOEmAAGGVMl1T44668.jpg "height=" 428 "/>

(13) Other options generally select the default value, and at "Select Size", select the capacity to divide the logical disk. If you are creating multiple logical disks, you can enter the capacity of the 1th logical disk here, and then click Accept to create the first logical disk. You can then create a 2nd, 3rd, and other logical disks that you need. Here we use all the space, create a logical disk, you can click the "Update Size" button, use all the space, and then click the "Accept" button, 1-3-13 is shown.
