3 adding storage and considerations to the Server 3.1 exit Maintenance mode and add local storage
After the host enters VMware ESXi again, log in to vcenter Server using vsphere client, "Exit Maintenance Mode" and add local storage by placing the host in maintenance mode, the main steps are as follows.
(1) When the host is powered on, after entering VMware ESXi, in the vsphere client, you can see that the host is connected. Right-click on the host and select "Exit Maintenance Mode" from the popup shortcut menu, as shown in 1-4-1.

(7) In the Properties dialog box, specify the properties of the data store, and in the input data store Name text box, enter the name of the datastore you want to add, which will be added to the current ESXi host. When you have multiple hosts, plan a unified name for your storage. Planning can be in a number of ways, generally I use host name + Storage name + serial number. For example, this is the first local store added on the 2nd ESXi host, you can name it as shown in esx02-d1,1-4-7.

Figure 1-4-8 the added storage
For the other two hosts, also refer to the above steps to operate, namely:
L put the host in standby mode
• Power off the host and disconnect the power cord
• Open the server host, plug in the RAID card, and add the hard drive
L plug in the power cord, power on the server, enter the RAID configuration interface
L use vsphere Client to exit Maintenance mode and add local storage to the host.
It is important to note that when the number of hosts in the vsphere Datacenter is less than 3, only 1 of those hosts can be placed in maintenance mode. If the data center has multiple hosts, you can put multiple hosts in maintenance mode at the same time, which depends on the capacity settings of the failed hosts in the datacenter. Therefore, in most cases, a single installation configuration is relatively safe and reliable.
3.2 The boot disk needs to be reset if the system is installed on the local hard drive
Although we introduce the simple, but in the actual use, installation configuration process, always encounter problems. Below we will add RAID cards for the IBM server, configure the hard disk, may encounter problems, and give the corresponding solution. If the server has a hard drive installed (such as a solid state drive installed) before the RAID card is added, the system is installed on the hard disk. Then, after the raid card is added, the local hard drive needs to be initialized and configured for raid to be used. The system can then be installed on the SSD and re-added to the vcenter Server. The main steps are as follows.
(1) Enter the RAID card configuration, configure this separate SSD as RAID0, and partition a logical disk.
650) this.width=650; "Style=" background-image:none;border-bottom:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-left:0px ;p adding-right:0px;border-top:0px;border-right:0px;padding-top:0px; "title=" clip_image018 "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image018 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/5B/52/wKiom1UGNKuhsikQAAIQGQNj5ig684.jpg "height=" 430 "/>
Figure 2-1-1 Configuring a solid-state drive as RAID0
(2) in the "Virtual Drives" option, select the new SSD that is configured as RAID0, select "Set Boot Drive", and then click the "GO" button to set the SSD raid to boot disk, as shown in 2-1-2. Set to display the current boot disk as VD1 or VD0 (only if you have more than one logical partition, you do not need to do this if you have a single logical disk).
650) this.width=650; "Style=" background-image:none;border-bottom:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-left:0px ;p adding-right:0px;border-top:0px;border-right:0px;padding-top:0px; "title=" clip_image020 "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image020 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/5B/52/wKiom1UGNKzysdWyAAFU6zyuak8092.jpg "height=" 445 "/>
Figure 2-1-2 Setting up the boot disk
(3) Restart the server using the VMware ESXi installation CD (or install a USB flash drive), and in the Select a Disk to install or Upgrade dialog box, choose the location where you want to store the operating system, as shown in 2-1-3. In this list, the "local" list shows the local disk or local storage for the server, and "remote" displays the server's remotely stored devices, typically a storage device that is connected via FC or SAS. On the current server, the local hard drive has a 2.27TB (this is the disk after the RAID10 of 6 hard disks), a 110.83GB (this is a single 120GB SSD made of RAID0), a 28.89GB (which is used to boot the installation of VMware ESXi 5.5 of the boot USB drive), remote has three disks, respectively, 10GB, 3TB, 2.14TB, where 10GB this is assigned to the current server alone, for the installation of the system, and the other two is allocated to all the servers in the current array of shared storage, the operating system can not be installed on these two large-capacity storage, Otherwise, the data will be lost. In this example, if the operating system was originally installed on the SSD, select the 110.83GB local hard drive and install the system on local storage.

(4) After installation, enter the VMware ESXi console interface, set the original IP address for the server, and use vsphere client to log in to Vcenter server, add VMware ESXi to the original cluster, reconfigure the NIC, and the data, Other settings do not need to be configured.
3.3 Modifying the system boot order
If after adding the raid card, reboot the server cannot boot (when the system is installed on the remote shared storage), this is the boot sequence is not correct, enter the CMOS setting, the modified post-loaded SAS card is booted first. The main steps are as follows.
(1) Restart the server, press F1 hotkey when the menu shown in Figure 2-2-1 appears.
