Project management case discussion experience-talk with the boss about "money"

Yesterday, I attended the case analysis activity held by Guangdong Project Management Club. The case raises a very realistic question: in the domestic software industry, especially in small and medium software industry, the technology department and Development Department are very low in the eyes of the boss! Because they cannot directly obtain profits for the company, their profits come from the business department and sales department.

Therefore, project managers who work hard in this environment are often in a very passive situation. There are three or five people who have seven or eight shots, but they have to do everything. From bidding in the early stage, to requirement analysis, development and testing, to final launch and acceptance, some project managers even need to collect money. In this case, we often talk about the "Golden Triangle of Project Management", the process, and the review. The author wrote in "coming out of software Workshop" at the beginning:

I have repeatedly commented on the discussions over the past few days and found that software teams have such a common phenomenon that most people are in the company, with only 3-5 developers, more than 10 people. Although there are just a few guns, pre-sales support, software development, testing, packaging and publishing, document writing, implementation and installation, training, and technical support are all done.

This is nothing, and almost one person is responsible for a product or a project. One person is responsible for the maintenance of multiple customers from the beginning to the end.

After discussion, our team thought that the five process groups could not solve the problem from the nine major knowledge fields of project management, and from the perspective of the project team, the problem was also unsolved. At this time, the most effective tool is communication, especially with the boss. Then, how to communicate becomes the focus. We still need to start from the boss's concerns, that is, "money ". From the strategic aspect of the company, the various costs of the project team, the benefits brought by the project to the company, the benefits brought by the current situation, and the benefits brought by improvements, etc, in this way, the boss and the senior management can be moved. In this way, we can truly "unify the project and company strategy ".
