Protocols and ports used by Windows Server Failover Cluster

The Windows server Cluster service, the Cluster service, is used to control server cluster operations and to manage the internal flat file database of the cluster. A cluster is a collection of standalone servers that are combined and serve as a separate entity for external service. The cluster that the user sees is a separate system. If a node fails, the other nodes assume the service and data of the failed node continue to operate. When a new node joins the cluster, all of the clustered applications, such as SQL Server FCI, must be reinstalled on this node.

The following are the network requirements that the Windows Cluster service needs to configure if the environment spans the firewall:
