PS Create a retro-styled planetary landscape poster

First step: Create a file

Open PS Press CTRL + N on the keyboard or click File > New, in the pop-up dialog box, create a 1200 x 1600 px ps file.

Fill the background with black (#000000) when the creation is complete.

Step two: Add stars

We only need to use the material picture to add the stars to the scene. At the beginning, you need to download and open the Capodimonte Deep field image in Wikimedia Commons, which is provided by ESO (European Southern Observatory).

Use the free Transform tool ctrl+t to change the size of the material picture to match the size of our canvas.

Now we have stars in space and we can make small adjustments to him. First, select the image > Adjust > curve or press the quick key ctrl+m darken the image to make the bright stars stand out.

We can also lower hue, choose Image > Adjust > Hue/saturation, shortcut key ctrl+u, adjust saturation to-50

Step Three: Add gradients

Let it have a faded, retro style, and one of the things to do is to add a color gradient. New Layer (SHIFT+CTRL+N). Double-click the new layer to open the Layer Style dialog box and add a gradient overlay: yellow – Magenta – blue-green (see figure below)

Next, the opacity of the layer is tuned to 15%.

Fourth step: Create the landscape

Now we create the part below our work. First, download the material picture badlands dragged to Ps.

Using the path selection (found in the options bar) of the Pen tool (P), hook up the part of the rocky landscape and drain the sky. Right-click the Pen tool to create the path chosen to create the selection (Ctrl+enter), ctrl+shift+i, and delete the part of the sky.

Adjust the picture to fit the canvas with the Free Transform tool (ctrl+t).

We then make some adjustments and distort our landscape picture. First, select the image > Adjust > Curve (ctrl+m) to make the curve shown below.

Next Select the image > Adjust > Hue/saturation and adjust the saturation to-40.

Then, on the layers panel, move the landscape layer below the gradient layer

Fifth Step: Add clouds

We used the Sweden 3 footage of the cloud.

Turn on image > Adjustment > Levels (CTRL+L). First, click on the black eyedropper icon to set dark (it is on the leftmost three eyedropper icon) and click on the darkest part of the cloud material picture. Second, click on the white eyedropper icon to set the white field (this is the rightmost eyedropper), and then click on the brightest part of the image. The image adjustment at this level will highlight the area and darken the dark area, adding a good contrast to the image.

We only need the cloud part image (the top half of the image), so use the rectangular marquee tool (M) to select the part of the sky, and then deselect (ctrl+i) to remove the unwanted part.

All we need is a cloud and no interest in the blue sky. So we click on the selection > Color range, in the dialog box, make sure to select the Eyedropper (the one without the + and-number).

In the canvas, we click on the Blue section and in the dialog box, adjust the color tolerance by about 115 to make sure we select all the blue areas. It's OK to do it.

Then reverse, select > reverse (ctrl+shift+i).

Then select Layers > New > by copying layers (ctrl+j), creating layers of clouds on the new layer.

Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation low saturation to-100.

Ctr+t pay attention to adjust the cloud layer size, and the relationship between the layers.

Now let's cover up some of the clouds to make it better fit into our scene.

Next, Layer > Layer Mask > Show all, or click the add vector mask directly below the layer.

Select the Brush tool (B) and adjust the brush hardness to 0%. Start painting at the top and bottom of the cloud so that we can eventually get a more natural cloud.

Now we need the clouds to blend into the background. First select the Gradient tool (G) from the tool panel and set the foreground color to white (# FFFFFF). In the options bar, set the gradient tool from the foreground to the transparent gradient preset, and select the way the gradient is symmetrical.

After setting, pull a gradient from the bottom of the cloud to the top of the cloud.
