　The outline of a copy portrait

Open the AI and create a new document. There are no strict rules for document size. If you are a beginner, you can try to keep up with the size of my document, refer to the figure below so that you can refer to the various parameter values I will set.

Beginners should understand that the various parameter values in the software will vary depending on the size of the document you are drawing, and you need to debug each parameter on a panel that is controlled by each tool according to the actual requirements, and find the best results on your own.

Next, drag the portrait you want to copy into the document to reduce the transparency of the embedded image to make the lines of the next copy visible. Then lock it on the layers panel. You should create a new layer to draw.

Find a good angle and composition for the portrait you want to portray. To avoid drawing to the halfway to adjust.

Turn off the fill, turn on the stroke, set the stroke size to 1, color arbitrary, preferably with an easily recognizable color. Copy the main outline of the original portrait. The details are negligible, but the characters must be sketched out.

Let's open the swatches panel and create a new color group.

Fills the painted portrait according to the color scheme of the colors group. In the process of coloring, continue to use the direct selection tool to fix the imperfect details. Keep the visual coordination when coloring. Try to use a high saturation color, so that the visual gain a certain impact.

The dot pattern adds texture to the portrait. You don't have to cover the whole portrait with a pattern, so it looks rough, and a little more subtle is to find the part where you want to add the pattern, and then select this section to add a new pattern fill to the skin.

For example, I add a dot pattern to the background first. Select the background rectangle and go to the Appearance panel. In the lower left corner of the panel, click Add New Fill. Then in the Fill box click on the small arrow down, the color board, if you do not find the dot pattern, then you need to click the icon in the upper right corner, "open the Library > Design > Basic graphics > Basic Graphics Points", select the dot you think fit. In this case, I've chosen a pattern dot of ten dpi 30%, which is related to the size of the document I set up.

The dot looks too dark to be a little distracting. Let's go into the transparency panel and change the pattern to overlay. Of course you want to make sure that the dot pattern fill is selected in the Appearance panel. In the same way, I decorated the whole picture with a pattern. Of course, there are places where I keep the picture intact, like the skin of a character.

　　Four, art brush stereotypes

The outline of the object is outlined, which can highlight the characteristics of the object being drawn, and can also add a sense of volume to the object. Here we want to use the art brush. There are many default art brushes in AI, but this time I want to make my own brushes. This step is very simple.

Draw a circle, then use the Anchor Point tool, click on the corresponding two anchor points, the circle into a spindle.

Drag the shape into the brush panel, and a new brush's option box pops up, selecting the art brush here.

The setting parameters of the art brush can be kept as default.

Start drawing out some details and outlines of the characters with a paintbrush. You can create a new layer, and then close the previous fill layer. Refer to the original artwork to add details. Art brush line is not necessarily close to the original edge, so that the whole picture of nature, pen and write smoothly, highlighting the natural hand-painted style.
