For many Photoshop users, layer blending pattern is not unfamiliar, in the use of the process, in order to find the best performance, we will not naturally to the layer blending mode of the option to try each, and then will be repeated to get the desired results. This article will explain in detail how the layers overlap in Photoshop layer blending mode works. Common layers overlap Two layers or more than two layers, generally speaking, two layers of overlapping better control and easy to see effect, more than two layers are rarely stacked in layer mode, so it is difficult to control the effect, it is really necessary to do so also generally use another method. Then the mixed mode of the Photoshop overlay graph "superposition", "soft light", "strong light", "brightness", "linear Light", "Point Light" and "solid color mixing" to explain the common way. Open Photoshop to create a new grayscale-mode square document. Open the Gradient tool on the toolbox, and in the Gradient Editor dialog box that pops up, select black and white gradient and set the smoothness value to "0%", as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Setting the gradient editor
Stretch the black and white gradient from left to right on the new document, and view the histogram, as shown in Figure 2. It's interesting to compare the histogram of smoothness 100% and 0% differently.
Figure 2 Black and white gradient effect and histogram to open the Layers panel, copy the "background" layer, get the "background copy" layer and rotate clockwise 90 degrees, as shown in Figure 3.
Figure 3 Copy layer and rotate direction
Underneath the open Layers panel, by pressing the Create new fill or adjust Layer button, selecting the tone Detach command in the menu, and setting the level value to 10 in the tonal Separation dialog box that pops up, 10 levels of stripes appear, as shown in Figure 4.
Fig. 4 The color-separated grayscale image lays the foundation for understanding the layer blending mode based on the above formed level pattern, and the following step-by-step analysis is made on several modes to lighten the underlying image.
1, "superposition" mode
"Overlay" is a combination of "multiply" and "filter", Photoshop automatically detects red, green, and blue channels of color information, the layer of all color information will be replaced by the background layer color, which will vary according to the picture hierarchy and the resulting color changes. As shown in Figure 5.
Figure 5 The result color of the overlay mode
Then we look at the effect of the overlay pattern on the image, open a portrait photo, create a new layer, fill it with blue, set the blending mode of the layer to "overlay", that is, create a mix, the photo shows a clear blues effect, as shown in Figure 6.
Figure 6 Opening an image file New layer fill blue and set to "overlay" mode "overlay" mode for the same image overlap will produce a direct effect, making the darker part of the picture, the brighter part of the brighter, resulting in contrast between the image light and shade, and will reduce the level of feeling. Reasonable use of color fill superimposed on the image above, adjust its opacity, can get a variety of shades affordable shade photo effect.
Here's a picture of the exterior, "superimposed" on brown and Orange, showing two different color effects, reflecting the difference between the left-covered brown image gives a sense of nostalgia, as the old ancient photos, and the right side of the orange-covered images show a strong sense of color, but also a flavor, as shown in Figure 7.
