As the flattening became popular, a low, abstract, low-level polygon background, which appeared in the background of a Web page or poster design, came into vogue. The shape of its class geometry, there is a concise sense of the future, as high as the big labels are popular. Today we are going to learn how to use AI software to make a low polygon background map.
The creation of abstract graphics for beginners will be faced with a dilemma, that is, can not make arbitrary to achieve the "natural" effect. To eliminate this "man-made" sense, I think the most effective way is to draw materials from elsewhere, through the nature of the environment light and natural color materials.
One, choose the picture
It is important to choose a picture that is rich in color and meets the needs of the design environment. In this case, I chose such a picture to open in the AI.
Second, the SOFTWARE setup
Before we start making polygons, we'll open the AI to make the following settings, view Pull-down menu:
1, the selection of "Smart reference line";
2, "guide line" in the "Lock reference line";
3, check the "alignment point";
4, lock the background photos;
Third, the first triangle
In the picture, let's select a part of the area that we think can be color as a background image. For example, in this picture, I chose the excessive color of the sunset and seawater fusion as the main part of the background image.
In this area, start drawing the first triangle. With the pen tool, no color is filled, and the stroke is turquoise.
Start drawing a triangle, and in the background, the triangle is not as big as a color. This is the need to fill the next color.
Four, draw the remaining triangle
Then, next to the triangle, select another suitable area and draw another triangle. The three sides of the second triangle are at least joined to one side of the first triangle. As shown in figure:
At this point, the mouse will be prompted to slide over the anchor point of the triangle, which will help you locate the anchor points of the other triangles. Slowly draw other remaining triangles to ensure that each triangle is seamlessly connected.
At this point, you will regret why you did not choose the tool that was automatically generated. But remember, no matter how powerful the tool is, it's always better than your eyes and heart. Because, only you can choose your angle to combine these pieces of the triangle.
Remember what I'm emphasizing here: the colors in each triangle are kept as single as possible through the triangles in the background drawing.
Okay, here's my triangle jigsaw:
Five, fill color
From here, we need to use the eyedropper tool, the color of the background image to fill in each triangle, the triangle between the two try to maintain color transition while respecting the background of the primary colors. You also need to remove the strokes when you fill the color. At this time, it seems to be finishing a picture of the mosaic.
By absorbing one side of the background to fill the triangle, at this time, the blue strokes of the triangle I have to eliminate one by one. Then I'll turn off the visible buttons on the background map. The effect is as follows:
At this point we will see that there are still some gaps, it does not matter, then use the direct selection tool to do the last step of the small adjustment of these anchors. After the adjustment, then will appear this piece like Diamond crystal clear stone!
VI. Application of Background map
Since the use of polygons as the background, then take a WebApp interface as an example. When my landing interface wanted it as a background, since we were using a vector map made of AI, I could enlarge it to the right size and then export the PNG image as needed. Remember to group the triangles before zooming in.
Here is the actual use of the background examples, you can also apply to the poster, logo design and other situations.
