PS teaches you to create shiny misty text effects

In today's tutorial, we will use the methods used in previous tutorials, and will introduce some new techniques to use. Or the old saying, the end result is not an end, the most important is the production process, we can enjoy the good.

Here, I use the Western language as a case used, Chinese can also use this effect, just because the Chinese strokes in the direction of four scattered direction, the production needs to be quite a bit of thinking before you can hold the coordination of the text.

Open PS, create a new 1920px*1200px document, create a new layer, and fill the layer with black #1f1e1e. Increase the gradient overlay layer style for this layer, and in the Layer style panel, set the radial gradient from the dark gray #707070 to the white #ffffff, with the gradient blending mode "multiply" and the opacity reduced to 60%. In the center of the radial gradient is white, which makes the background appear dimmed around the middle.

After the gradient overlay, you can carefully see that the radial gradient will appear a circle of similar "ring" of the grain. There are a lot of ways to solve this texture, and I'm going to use a noise filter here. Go to filter > Noise > Add Noise, in the filter settings panel, the noise count is 2%, Gaussian, and monochrome is selected. A lot of students who just started to learn PS are always curious about some strange parameters in the panel, in fact, we may not necessarily have to grasp the meaning of all the parameters at the beginning. After multiple application of the parameters, you can slowly understand its meaning.

OK, let's start writing. I chose the Western language font kunstler Script Regular, font selection to pay attention to, must embody the "artistic sense", that is, if the ordinary more formal font, the effect may not be so ideal. This is also based on different fonts, we have to choose a different effect, even from the meaning of the words to be unified style. I'll write a "design" here first.

Then write the remaining "by" and "Ray", each word does not have to be the same size, according to the characteristics of the character of the word for simple typesetting, words and words between the best can be linked together.

At this point, we can also choose some vector patterns to decorate. I am here to provide a vector of the download, you can also use the material at hand, according to the characteristics of the glyph decoration. Here I simply made a little modification to add some curly lines.

　　Second, the effect of applying layer styles

The shape of the text is done, let us combine the text and decoration together into a layer, named "Text", shortcut keys for the selected text and decorative click Ctrl+alt+e. Turn off the original layer. Turn this new merged layer into a smart object. When you click on the layer right, select the to only object option.

As a smart object, this layer will be able to scale in the original pixel range, and in the use of some filters, but also the filter as a smart filter, easy to control and edit the effect.

At this point, we want to apply the gradient overlay layer style to the "text" layer, and the gradient color I chose the orange-pink-blue-green linear gradient with an angle of 90 degrees. In the choice of color, you can choose any, but to pay attention to the use of brightness and purity are high color, so as to reflect the "shiny" effect. The Panel styles and gradient effects are shown in the following illustration.

After applying the gradient overlay, let's add a drop shadow to the layer. Although the application of projection on a dark background may not seem obvious, what we need to know is that no matter whether a small effect can be noticed at the first glance, it is these details that make up the final effect and therefore cannot be belittled. The projection pattern is a black projection with a positive overlay, with a transparency of 100%, a distance of 5, a size of 20, and a direction of 120 degrees. Detailed parameters refer to the following figure.

Then, to the most important effect, I think the application of this effect in all of the same effect is very effective. That is to add "bevel and emboss" to the layer. You can always consider whether you can use this effect in all the components you want to design in the direction of the object. For panel parameters, we do not need to use the first time to fully remember, as long as after repeated attempts to debug, you will naturally understand the role of each parameter in the panel. You can take a look at my panel parameters first:

Like the literal meaning, such as angle, highlight, shadow, depth, size these are better to understand, for parameter values are not constant, they will vary depending on the environment and the size of your design files. So, you can try to slide each slider around, slide away and look at the effect until you find the right one.

After this effect is done, we have to do this again, this time, let's copy the text layer, the shortcut is to select the layer and click Ctrl+j. The first thing we're going to do next is adjust the padding for this duplicate layer to 0%. When the fill is dropped to 0, no color on the layer is displayed, and its layer style continues to produce effects.

We turn off the layer style "gradient overlay" of the duplicate layer and then bring up the bevel and Emboss layer style panel to modify some of the parameters in the panel. Here first to change the direction, will be changed to the next, depth to 370, the other parameters you can refer to the following figure.

If you feel that the effect is not strong enough, you can duplicate the duplicate layer one more. To achieve such a similar effect.

So, we're going to duplicate a previous step, and this time we'll adjust the bevel and emboss to turn off the projected layer style. In the parameters panel, soften to 1, the high light mode to color Dodge, and the opacity to 70%.

At this point, the application of our layer style is complete.

　　Third, the application pattern

The web is a vast array of patterns, but we can use the desired pattern, perhaps sometimes by looking for the pattern of luck. So, homemade patterns are especially important for a limited amount of time. Here I want to add a pattern effect to the text with a sloping shutter.

Creates a new file with a size of 40px*200px and a transparent background. The pattern is typically created from the base cell graph. Once the new document is successful, use the Rectangle tool to pull out a rectangular selection with a length of 20px and a height of 200. With the gradient tool, gradients are the transition from white to white, all white, with only a linear gradient of white from 100 to 40 at both ends. Apply a gradient in a rectangular selection. Cancels the selection and defines the entire document as a pattern.

After you finish defining the pattern, we go to the text file, create a new layer above the text, and fill the layer with the pattern we just made.

Rotate the pattern layer to change the layer blending mode to soft light.

Select the type of layer, hold down the CTRL key and click the thumbnail of the layer to bring up the text selection. To keep the selection, go back to the pattern layer and click on the mask below the layers panel. Because a selection is in place, adding a mask automatically blocks parts that are not in the selection. And the effect of the blinds we added to the text is complete.

　　Iv. Enhancing effects

In order to make the pattern more attractive, it is a good choice to increase the effect of some light properly. At this point, let's merge the text and pattern into a layer, select the merged layer, and go to filter > Blur > Gaussian blur, and the fuzzy parameter is 10px. The use of Gauss blur here is like adding a faint glow. Layer blending mode can be changed to filter color, if you feel that the effect is not strong enough to duplicate a layer, slightly adjust the transparency can be.

We can also increase the effect of the night sky for this pattern. Here, again, we can use the way I've talked about using the add noise and adjusting the levels to make the stars more effective. Copy a background layer above the background layer and go to filter > Add noise, and the number of noise is 30, monochrome. Then use the level adjustment layer on this layer, and remember to turn the level adjustment layer into a clipping mask, and use it only on this layer. Change the slider of the color order to create the effect. Then change the blending mode of this layer into color dodge.

At this point, let's add a grunge pattern that can be downloaded at the beginning of the article and then dragged into the top position of all layers. Change the pattern blending mode to multiply.

Can you continue to increase the effect? You can put a halo of paint on the brush to decorate some light. or whatever. I am no longer one by one here to repeat. As long as you can put the overall effect of good, everything is on the right desire.

This kind of shiny artistic effect is very fastidious about the choice of the font, and the quantity of the text should not be too much. One of the most important areas of concern for the mastery of pseudo objects is the high light and shadow parts. These two parts are handled well, the effect will be more stereoscopic and realistic.
