Geographic Information System (GIS) can process high-resolution and massive spatial data and is a powerful tool for spatial epidemiological research. In order to enable Chinese researchers to master the basic operations and applications of GIS, the education center of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Emy of Sciences held a "advanced training course on GIS data processing and modeling" at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou in August 20-22, 2011. The Institute sent Comrade Zhu Qi and Liu Tao to attend the training and learn how to apply GIS to the field of spatial epidemiological analysis and disease prevention and control.
The training lasted for three days and was taught by senior experts from the Chinese Emy of sciences and other scientific research institutions. The courses covered the introduction and operation of ArcGIS 10.0 software, spatial data editing, vector data processing and analysis, affects data processing and analysis, data statistics and Topology processing, digital elevation, and 3D modeling. Combined with actual cases such as contour lines, hydrological analysis, and chemical plant site selection, this paper explains the comprehensive application of GIS and how to establish a model to solve spatial and geographical problems.
Through this training seminar, the students learned the functions and operations of GIS and thought about how to combine GIS with spatial epidemiological research, and have certain spatial analysis and spatial drawing capabilities, this laid the foundation for the research on relevant topics of the Institute.
