How do girls develop in the IT industry? This is an old topic. Recently, I received an email from a friend of the following:

Hello, senior student. I am one of the three undergraduate students who will graduate in 2015. I was transferred to computer science and technology before applying for an exam, as a result, we entered the school door with our bags on our back. During my school, I worked very hard to learn my own courses. Every year, I was awarded the National inspirational scholarship and the first prize. I also worked as a cadre in organizing activities, and I also worked in all walks of life as a part-time employee. Of course, I am a family planning student. My major is computer software development (C/C ++). I have also participated in the competition (not winning ). In fact, to be honest, I just worked very hard to make the courses offered by the school get high scores. In computer programming, I am really weak. It takes half a day to sort out the logic when writing a simple algorithm question.

After graduation, I am very confused. I have been thinking about postgraduate entrance exams, but it is not always a way to escape. Now the progress of the postgraduate entrance exam has been put down, and I do not know how to find my work. I hope you can guide me in what positions are suitable for girls (or people with poor programming skills) in the computer industry? What departments are involved in the organizational structure of large Internet/service providers?

Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you and hope to receive your reply as soon as possible. Thank you.

My reply is as follows:

Hello, thank you for your trust in me. From your email, we can see that you have made great efforts in learning not only to achieve good performance, but also to be very active in community activities and part-time jobs. Your college life must be rich and colorful.

Before answering your questions, I would like to introduce my Development Department and my testing department. Our development department has nearly 80 employees, and fewer than 10 employees. We have 14 developers and only one female colleague. The testing department is a little different. I don't know how many people there are in their department, but men and women should be about half of each. Because developers need to perform self-testing on their own programs, I often deal with testers and know some situations over there.

Through the above introduction, you should have a general understanding of the structure of developers and testers. Next I will answer your questions in the email.

(1) Girls are suitable for many jobs in the computer industry. As I mentioned above, software testing requires a very careful person. In this regard, girls are obviously more suitable. In addition, some work related to document writing, operation and maintenance can also be considered. Of course, this should come from your own interests and expertise. In addition, the weak programming ability is a relative concept. If you are still at school, it doesn't mean that you have a strong programming ability after the test, or that you write a program that is very laborious and weak in programming. Only in actual project work can you gradually find out if you are suitable for your current position. Therefore, you do not have to worry too much about your programming capabilities.

(2) I don't know which departments are involved in the organizational structure of large Internet/service providers, but from the perspective of my company, there are Development Department, test department, marketing department, System Planning Department, Finance Department, Human Resources Department, organization and Culture Department, and Strategy Department. Computer-related graduates generally enter the development, testing, and marketing departments.

(3) If you have questions about postgraduate entrance exams or work, you must consider them. Ask your parents, friends, and teachers more. This is an important choice in your life. I hope you will not keep yourself updated, have your own ideas.

Finally, I hope that the above answers will help you and find the right development path for you. Follow your blog.
