Questions about forgetting the root user password for MySQL

Error message: Java.sql.SQLException:Access denied for user ' root ' @ ' localhost ' (using Password:yes) '
And

If you forget the root user password for MySQL, you can do the following ( Linux):

If MySQL is running, first kill it: Killall-term mysqld.
Start Mysql:bin/safe_mysqld--skip-grant-tables
You can go to MySQL without a password .
Mysql-uroot
Then there is
>use MySQL
>Update user set Password=password ("New_pass") where user= "root";
>flush privileges;
Kill MySQL again and start MySQL in a normal way.

This is what I found somewhere else, it's the right way.
