When using the remote desktop service, multiple users can connect to the same server operating system through different sessions, so they share the same IP address. However, in this case, there are sometimes troubles, such:
Some applications, such as soft phones (RDP7 protocol supports speaker and microphone redirection) require different application instances to have different IP addresses, because the management program on the network communicates Based on the Client IP address.
Tracking network traffic through IP addresses (it is difficult to distinguish and track their data when all users on the RDS server use the same IP address)
Filter or fill in network traffic based on the IP address.
Windows Server 2008 R2 remote desktop service host (RDSH) now supports IP virtualization technology, each user session can get their own IP address. IP Virtualization has two working modes:Each session (all programs in the RDS session use a virtual IP address, one session has one IP address), each program (only for specific programs, and each instance in each session uses its own virtual IP address, for example, a soft phone number ).
IP virtualization uses DHCP servers in the same network segment as RDSH to assign IP addresses to RDS users. To enable IP virtualization, open "Remote Desktop Session host configuration" on the RD Session host server, select "properties" of the server, and set it under the "rd ip virtualization" tab. If you use the mode of each program, you need to add each application that uses the virtual IP address:
After the configuration is complete, you can see the actual effect during Remote Desktop Connection: in different sessions, applications can use different IP addresses:
