There is an old computer to deal with, throwing it away will pollute the environment, and the pollution of electronic products is very bad; sold, no one buys it. Donation or recycling are alternative solutions, but what should I do with my personal information on my computer? Manual deletion may not be cleaned up. After the computer is released, it will not be able to keep your private diary or photos flowing to the Internet one day. No one wants to see this situation.
Now we have something called "pass it on for good" to help. This is a USB card that can help you delete all personal data from your computer and install educational software. Then you can donate your old computer to students in the third world who need computer equipment.
This project is a public welfare project sponsored by the computer Research Institute of New Hampshire University, assisted by obliterase, an information processing company. "Relay" runs like this:
Start the computer, connect to the Internet, insert a USB card, and enable "relay". This software will perform a health check on your computer, see if it meets the world computer exchange (an organization dedicated to providing computers to young people in third-world countries) device donation criteria. The software clears all personal data, regardless of whether it meets the requirements. If the computer can no longer work, the software moves until now; if it meets the donation standards, the "relay" will load some educational software into the computer and the new OS designed for education.
After the operation is completed, you will receive an email confirming the erased information and inform you whether your computer will be donated or recycled by the user.
Donating and recycling computers not only reduces e-waste, but also reduces new pollution caused by repetitive production. Each "relay" is limited to several times, but it can be reinjected online, which is equivalent to unlimited use. The donated files will be stored on the project's official website.
"Relay" is funding on Kickstarter. Do you think this idea is good? Support them here.
