HTML5 input box supports placeholder, but there are compatibility issues with defining placeholder in the definition text box

<input type= "text" placeholder= "Search word" name= "P"/>  

However, search word that is displayed under Chrome cannot be centered vertically.

The workaround is to:

Set the line-height to normal

The CSS is defined as follows

input{line-height:normal;/* for Non-ie */  line-height:22px\9;/* for IE */  }
