In the process of technological learning and career development, we found that it is not so easy to grasp a lot of things, and it is impossible to achieve it overnight. In terms of performance tuning, I remember that I accidentally went to a company which had some requirements on performance. During the interview, I asked some performance-related questions, I also asked if I would use SQL profiler. At that time, I could say that I did not know much about performance optimization, but I could find some basic methods on the network, such as using exists instead of in. After this interview, I felt that I had a lot of shortcomings. So I began to constantly search for materials and learn more. I also read a lot of things and made a lot of testing practices, so I thought I knew how to tune it.

Later I found out that the original technology was very deep: By using SQL profiler, I can see some clues and discover some possible problems. But are these problems true, therefore, analysis is required. In the process of analysis, more knowledge is required to judge. For example, you must learn to understand the execution plan and statistical data.

Later, we further discovered that we should understand how the relational engine operates internally. We also found that tuning is not a superficial effort, but not simply modifying the join order, it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of each step to ensure that each point is as optimal as possible. Later I found that I needed to understand and grasp the working principle of the optimizer. It took a long time and effort to learn these things. I thought this was all, but I found myself still a little "not powerful" and I just got the memory problem, I thought I could analyze some counters and dynamic management views. Later I found that I still need to understand the underlying mechanism of windows and the memory allocation and management, I was never touched before.
