Linux/var/log/messages is empty (0k), messages.0, Messages.1 is also empty

Symptoms:
On Oracle Linux. Messages file is empty, messages.1,messages.2 etc rotated files is also empty (rotated generated message file name depends on/etc/logrotate.conf configuration file)

Reason:
The/etc/syslog.conf file has been altered, for example, to stare at the following lines:
$ grep/var/log/messages/etc/syslog.conf #*.info;mail.none;news.none;authpriv.none;cron.none/var/log/messages---- ----->>> Note the front # symbol
How to resolve:
1. Uncheck the related lines in the gaze/etc/syslog.conf (/etc/rsyslog.conf on OL7/RHEL7):
$ grep/var/log/messages/etc/syslog.conf *.info;mail.none;news.none;authpriv.none;cron.none/var/log/messages
2. Restart the Syslog service to take effect on the above changes
#service syslog Restart
On the OL7 or RHEL7. Use the following command, for example:
#/bin/systemctl Restart Rsyslog.service
