In the context of "triple play", competition from telecom operators is becoming increasingly fierce. In particular, its export advantages and broadband acceleration have attracted a large number of users, the business of radio and television operators has reached the bottleneck stage. At the same time, users' bandwidth needs are constantly increasing. The bandwidth of each household over 10 Mbps has become a common demand, and the access network suffers from a bandwidth bottleneck. Along with the maturity of the industrial chain, the cost of PON optical network equipment, optical fiber cables and related components is greatly reduced, and the construction efficiency of ODN is also rapidly improved. FTTH has become the most suitable access network solution for carrying the entire business.

Currently, two-way network change for radio/TV access networks mainly includes the following technologies:

• EPON + EOC: Mainstream selection technology, which currently accounts for more than 40% of the double-reform market share.

• EPON + C-DOCSIS: national standard technology, for China Radio and Television Network, compatible with the original CMTS system.

• FTTH: it is still pilot and the CATV access method is unclear. In the FTTH solution, CATV access is divided into three types: Single-fiber three-wave, dual-Fiber Three-wave, and fiber-optic Coaxial Dual-household. Because a single-fiber three-wave adds one WDM module per household, the network construction cost is high, single-fiber, three-wave, dual-fiber, three-wave, and fiber-optic Coaxial Dual-entry.

Which technology can be used to develop business better? We still use data to talk about it. The following are three different access scenarios: urban network construction, urban network transformation, and rural network access, compare the network construction costs, O & M costs, and bandwidth provision capabilities of the five construction modes: fiber coaxial dual-entry, dual-Fiber Three-wave FTTH, EPON + EOC, EPON + C-DOCSIS, and EPON + LAN.

1. Create a city network

1. Description of New City Network Model

A new residential area is a typical multi-storey apartment with 8 buildings, 4 units in each building, 16 households on 8 floors, and 512 households in total.

In the three penetration rates of 6.25%, 25%, and 100%, considering the cost of the HPC network, the network construction cost and O & M cost are calculated in five different construction modes: fiber coaxial dual-entry, dual-Fiber Three-wave FTTH, EPON + EOC, EPON + C-DOCSIS, and EPON + LAN. Costs of equipment, materials, labor, depreciation, O & M (maintenance and electricity) are taken into account.

In addition to fiber-to-the-home use of fiber optic fast connectors, other fiber optic connections or end-to-end use hot melt.

The average household bandwidth takes into account the concurrency rate of 30%.

2. Cost Comparison

From figure 1 and figure 2, we can draw the following conclusions and suggestions:

1) at the initial stage of construction, the cost of fiber coaxial dual-entry construction is similar to that of EPON + EOC and EPON + C-DOCSIS, with little investment;

2) When the penetration rate is 25%, the cost of fiber-optic Coaxial Dual-entry construction is equivalent to that of EPON + LAN, Which is 30% higher than that of EPON + EOC;

3) The cost and penetration rate of EPON + LAN are not significant. The investment in construction is large at the initial stage. The actual cost is higher than that of EPON + EOC, and the bandwidth cost per unit is higher than FTTH. deployment is not recommended;

4) Dual-Fiber Three-wave FTTH should take into account the incoming House Type Optical machine, the cost is high, but the cost is very high and the cost of fiber coaxial dual-household is not much different, for wealthy regions, regions with high bandwidth requirements and high penetration rate are recommended to use dual-Fiber Three-wave FTTH, and other cost-sensitive regions should use fiber-optic Coaxial Dual-entry.
