A year ago we reported a very strange name of a website Urlfan, at that time we thought it was a good internet "influence index". Urlfan ranked the site according to the popularity of the blog reference number. And Alexa and compete and other data analysis sites, Urlfan is not a measure of site traffic, but and technorati similar, but the site for all the rankings, not just blog.
Urlfan's ranking is good for social media users, but it's still a useful index because social media users have a lot of clout. What about the rankings this year?
Urlfan currently ranked 3,783,534 websites based on 302,023,552 articles from 5,948,937 blog feeds. Here are the top 10, the top ten in parentheses for last year's list.
#1. en.wikipedia.org (1)
#2. YouTube.com (3)
#3. Flickr.com (2)
#4. Twitter.com (9)
#5. Google.com (4)
#6. MySpace.com (6)
#7. Facebook.com (-)
#8. Imdb.com (5)
#9. NYTimes.com (7)
#10. Apple.com (8)
Only one of the new additions to the site, the seventh-ranked Facebook.washingtonpost.com fell out of the top 10, from tenth place to this year's 12th.
Twitter is the fastest-growing five-digit fourth this year.
Wikipedia is still the most-cited site by social media users and bloggers. YouTube and Flickr two commonly used media sharing sites are listed second and third. Two or three.
Last year, 10 independent blogs entered the 100-strong, including read-write networks. This year, the 100-strong blog or 10, there are several recent entry rankings of the site. Here is the ranking for this year, in parentheses for last year.
#23 techcrunch.com (#25)
#26 huffingtonpost.com (#32)
#33 engadget.com (#28)
#37 boingboing.net (#29)
#39 Gizmodo (-)
#41 mashable.com (#91)
#53 arstechnica.com (#50)
#60 lifehacker.com (#63)
#78 readwriteweb.com (#97)
#93 Smashing Magazine (-)
Finally, what new features does Urlfeed have this year? Yes, instant network functionality. The site this year launched a real-time hotspot radar (real-time Buzz Radar), which tracks popular keywords in the blogosphere. The Chrome OS, just released last week, is currently ranked 5th in the list of popular keywords.
Urlfan is not a perfect tool for measuring the impact of a website, you might think Google's PageRank is better. But we still like the idea of Urlfan, and we believe that the site can accurately and timely reflect the impact of the site.
