Rational: Using RSA to implement EMF development

The development EMF model is limited to XML schemas, IBM Rational Rose, Java source, or EMF Ecore. IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA) enables many application development tasks to fully benefit from the UML model in coordination with other business application development tools. The combination of RSA and EMF will provide a powerful tool for commercial or open source developers.

Introduction

This paper explores the use of Ibm®rational®software Architect (RSA) to develop a model that can be converted to the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) model. Why do you want to do this? Because EMF provides us with a number of useful features, including:

So you ask, "Why do I want these things?" ”。 Because of the combination of RSA model and EMF, you can quickly and easily create a data model and edit it.

Creating platform-independent models (PIMS) in RSA gives you the freedom to set these models as a model for a particular platform (PSMS). This relocation target can occur in the process of model transformation by applying the UML profile and other specific run-time metadata updates. These models can also be exported to other formats for use by other applications, such as EMF and UML2.

These transformations are not limited to RSA; they can also occur in Ibm®rational®software Modeler (RSM).

This article focuses only on class diagrams and associated model elements (classes, packages, associations, properties, and enumerations).

A simple library model

This simple model is based on the ibm®rational rose® model in the EMF Guide and has been recreated in RSA. It contains three classes that are related to each other. The library contains both the author and the book, as shown in Figure 1. As you would expect, each book has an author and each author has a book. The class "book" has an attribute of an enumeration type.
