Reasons for missing toolbars, menu bars, and workarounds in Visio

Symptoms in Microsoft Visio, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

• The toolbar you know is enabled is not visible.
• The menu bar could not be found.
• The button disappears from the toolbar.

Cause these symptoms occur if you accidentally drag the toolbar or the menu bar outside the visible screen area.

A similar problem can occur if one of the following conditions is true:

• The display resolution is too low to display all the buttons on the toolbar.
• Two toolbars are docked adjacent on the same line. In this scenario, Visio hides some buttons.

Solution to restore a toolbar or menu bar, use one of the following methods:

• Set the display resolution to 600 x or higher.
• Displays each toolbar on its own line.
• Restores the default settings. To do this, follow these steps.

  2. Exits all instances of Visio.
  4. Click Start , click Run , type regedit, and then click OK .
  6. Click the following registry subkey to fit the version of Visio that you are running:
     • Microsoft Office Visio 2007hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\12.0\visio\toolbars
     • Microsoft Office Visio 2003hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\11.0\visio\toolbars
     • Microsoft Visio 2002hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\visio\toolbars
     • Microsoft Visio 2000hkey_current_user\software\visio\visio 2000\toolbars
  8. On the edit menu, click Delete . Tool Bar the subkey is deleted.
  10. If you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click yes .
  12. On the registry menu, click exit .
      
      Registry Editor, the changes that you make are automatically saved.

When you restart Visio, Visio re-creates the deleted subkeys and restores the toolbars and menu bars to their default locations.
