Red Hat and hardware manufacturer fujiitsu said they would further expand cooperation on open source operating systems. According to the agreement between the two parties, the current focus of the two companies is to enhance the Red Hat Enterprise Linux applications on Intel Xeon and Itanium processor-based servers launched by Fujitsu.

Both parties will cooperate in software development, marketing, sales, and technical support. The focus is on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux + Fujitsu hardware platform. The cooperation between the two parties can provide Red Hat with a broader distribution channel, especially for developing the Asian market.

In addition, according to the cooperation agreement, Fuji and Red Hat will also set up a joint engineering team to develop integrated hardware/software products. It will take the Linux application field from traditional email and page services to new areas such as key business of enterprises. In the new application field, product reliability and scalability requirements will become more prominent.

At present, Red Hat's Enterprise Linux products have good sales performance. Sales of such products increased by February in the financial quarter ending in 38% compared with the same period last year.

However, the company's spokesman, Anne Day, declined to disclose what applications are currently being developed by the two companies for key businesses. Nor did he disclose whether Red Hat intends to cooperate with other hardware manufacturers.
