Red Hat recently launched a community version of The OpenStack release that is still under development. RedHat also releases an OpenStack release Enterprise Edition preview for users who sign the early application plan agreement.
Just like the community-driven Fedora Linux testing of many software programs and tools entering the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version, this new OpenStack release version is also the case. Red Hat calls it RDO. This release will serve as a test ground for many technologies that may be included in Red Hat's enterprise OpenStack release.
Like Fedora, Red Hat wants to build a developer and user community around RDO. Red Hat released the new Community version at an OpenStack spring meeting in Portland this week. OpenStack is a collection of open-source software designed to provide computing, storage, and network services as needed. This type of product is generally called IaaS (Infrastructure as a service ).
RDO runs on RHEL, Fedora, and other RHEL-based release platforms. It includes core OpenStack components, such as Nova, Glance, Keystone, Cinder, Quantum, Swift, and Horizon. It also has many development tools, such as Heat cloud application orchestration applications and Ceilometer resource monitoring and measurement tools. Red Hat also creates a new RDO Installation tool named "PackStack.
In the future, RDO will be updated with the upstream OpenStack modification. Brian Stevens, chief technology officer of Red Hat, said at a live Webcast Conference on this release that, like every milestone and release of each release, when key features are released, RDO will provide these key new features to developers and end users.
In addition to RDO, Red Hat also released a comprehensive enterprise release that became its first commercially supported OpenStack software package. For users participating in the Red Hat early app program, this release will be provided free of charge for 90-day evaluation. This version is based on the OpenStack Folsom version released in last September and is expected to be officially released in July.
Red Hat also launched its OpenStack cloud infrastructure partner network. Red Hat plans to build the network in the enterprise directory that provides the Red Hat-based OpenStack service.
Red Hat predicts that it is the biggest contributor to the latest version of OpenStack Grizzly released this month.
